Last night I was watching the episode "Danny Goes Social," first broadcast January 28, 1957. Danny is entertaining some rich folks and suggests to the woman who invited him there that she donate his fee to charity. He gives a couple suggestions, including the Heart Fund and Saint Jude's Hospital for Children. How could have have come up with that suggestion as early as 1956/1957? St. Jude's didn't exist yet and wasn't founded until 1962!

Maybe there was a smaller hospital named St. Jude's, in existence at the time, that Danny was referring to...?

On the complete fifth season DVD there's a featurette called, "Danny Thomas' Answered Prayer: The Story of St. Jude's." It states that Danny began praying to Saint Jude for guidance as a young comedian. It makes sense that he would begin thinking of how he wanted the hospital to be once he became successful.

There's a St. Jude ad that's been airing this summer, with archive footage of Danny. I wonder if this is the footage that's on the 5th season DVDs. I didn't even know this was on the set.
