Default Uncle Billy's Visit (ep #221 S #6)

A great ep, but I have a question for others who have watched it: Do you think Uncle Billy should have told Ward and June about Beaver trying to sneak in his friend at the movies? AND Do you think Ward & June would have yelled at the Beaver like Wally suggested?

I think Uncle Billy should have told Ward and June. But I think he should also have told them about the stern punishment he suggested and the dressing down he gave Beaver (you could tell Beaver felt two inches tall after Uncle Billy got done with him.)

I always thought Ward & June were good parents. Ward especially and I think he would have realized Beaver got punished enough and wouldn't have yelled.

Your thoughts.

I also think Uncle Billy handled the Beaver well. You knew after Uncle Billy got done the Beaver would never pull anything like that again. On another note, that Gilbert, what a bad influence! (Much worse than Eddie cause Gilbert was smarter than Eddie and sneakier)

I agree - great episode and yes, I also think that Ward and June should have been told about Beaver and his shinanigans because they left the boys in his care and he should have been up front enough to give them a full report. I also agree on the point that Ward would have considered Billy's punishment sufficient and left it at that. You could tell taht Beaver was brought down a few pegs just in the fact that he let his uncle down. If that had happened to me I think it would have hurt me more to know that I disappointed my uncle than to have my parents find out - no matter their reaction.

I see yalls point but I think in the end Billy handled the situation the way Ward and June would have done, and since Beaver was punished already, and felt bad by letting Billy down, there really wasnt a need to inform Ward and June. Thats the way I see it.

Cool

As the Beaver's parents, Ward and June were entitled to full disclosure of what happened while they were away. And that includes the punishment already doled out by Uncle Billy. I agree that Ward and June were very fair as parents and would not have punished Beaver further.

No, I liked How Uncle Billy Handled it.
And that he didn't tell Ward and June.

Cool

I remember Beaver got talked into trying to sneak his friends into the movies, and when Uncle Billy found out and took him home, he said "You waited until I was in charge to pull something like this !" .

I think it should have been written to where Beaver explained "They talked me into trying to sneak them in !" and "No, I get into trouble for these things even when my parents ARE here !" . Other that that, the way Uncle Billy handled the situation was all right .

Default Uncle Billy is Great!

No, I don't think Uncle Billy should have told Ward and June. My favorite part was at the end when Beaver asked Uncle Billy why he didn't tell his parents. Beaver got in trouble, got caught, was punished and said he was sorry. Uncle Billy said if you keep telling a kid he's bad, he'll start believing it. I think that's good advice for all parents.

Agree with that.

In fact I think that was put in there for the parents watching. Some of the shows has a message in there for the parents who might have been watching, and that seems to have been one of them.

It’s nice hearing all your takes. I think is one of the very best eps, at least for me.

Also totally agree! Uncle Billy was right, and that was a good exchange they had at the end.

I'd say he shamed Beaver pretty well, both at the theater, and when they got home, and Billy knew it. Therefore, no need to get Beaver in further trouble.

One other thing: when Gilbert said he'd done it last week, if I were the writers, I'd have added a Beaver line: When we get outside, I'm gonna punch you in the mouth!

BTW MrsMac thanks for finding this old thread!
