Wink Marathon Shmarathon

OK, you've crossed a line, put up your dukes. Just kidding. I stopped watching Hazel about 2 months ago after watching it literally for 30 years in a row on either a twice a week, or when I started 5 times a week but in the last decade it was down to once a week. It took me 30 years to not be burned out by the show but when I became enraged every time Hazel dis-obeyed Mr. B or went behind his back and did the opposite of what he wanted I literally would shout at the TV "You're Fired!" This went on for at least the last 4 years of watching Hazel. I would eat breakfast when watching and found myself swallowing my food before I chewed it I got so angry. It was time to walk away, just walk away from "helpful Hazel" for a while. I knew for my blood pressure's and digestion's sake I had to stop. But I plan to start watching again in a couple years. Hopefully the nerve medicine I got from Mr. Wilson will have kicked in by then.

I have never watched any of my favorite TV shows marathon style for the very reason talked about above, not wanting to get sick of the show, or as you all put it, getting burned out. Any show you watch one episode after another after another you are going to get sick of. At least I sure would. I like watching my classic TV shows once a week every day. I don't repeat one series more than once a week, I watch other shows the other 6 days of the week.

This way you get the side benefit of really looking forward to watching each different episode of a series when you only play it once a week.

Today I watched my Thursday shows, Leave It To Beaver, Peter Loves Mary & Lucy Show. Tomorrow I'm looking forward to my Friday breakfast companion, Bachelor Father.

Bachelor Father is one of the reasons Antenna TV will always have a special place in my heart. No FREE channel ever aired it and it was one of those 50s shows I thought would never see the light of day.

Nice you are taking a break from Hazel and giving yourself the opportunity to revisit some other fun shows. There are many out there!

The wife on "Father Knows Best" is another one where the woman is shown as happy and content in her place

Hmm, I felt myself getting mad again just thinking of all the reasons I couldn't stand watching anymore. OK, it's break time at least for a few years till I can get reach Oh Nuts's higher level of calm feeling about the show. I aspire to be Nuts.

Oh, another thing that annoyed me after a long while of watching was Dorothy's seeming constant threatening to leave Mr. B if he didn't obey Hazel's orders or do whatever Hazel wanted. Just once I would have loved Mr. B to say, there's the door, USE IT.

By the way, not all the shows were maddening, whenever Hazel and the Baxter family were ALL working together on one team, no one going behind anyone's back, those were the shows I still could enjoy. Generally when ALL the Baxters and Hazel are on the same page, those are the shows I could still watch with a smile. Like when the evil secretary tried to keep Hazel from attending her cousin's wedding, all Baxters were on same side then. When Hazel found painting of her as a little girl was painted by a now famous painter all were on same side, when Baxters and Hazel all helped out at the Italian restaurant run by the total sap Jamie Farr who didn't seem to know how to tie his own shoes much less be the owner of a restaurant. Also a handful of other episodes whenever Hazel was not betraying Mr. B, those are shows I could still enjoy.

The wife on "Father Knows Best" is another one where the woman is shown as happy and content in her place and not brainwashed by some BS liberal/ERA cause. "All in the Family" really lit the fire on that when the 70's rolled around and set the stage for all that followed.

As far as Hazel, I started this thread because I watch every morning, and after viewing it cycle around a few times, I really started to notice what a bch she can be with the family and everyone around her with that superior and smug "I'm always right and know what's best for you even if you don't" attitude.

Of course as someone pointed out, it's just a show and Hazel saving the day is the whole point, but I would have loved to at least seen a dream episode where Hazel fights with Mr. B, and when she goes to sleep she has a nightmare where she's always wrong, gives bad advice, screws everything up, and gets tossed out on her rear. Then wakes up shaking in a cold sweat. It would instantly become my favorite episode.
Cfr1970, that dream ep you suggest is a great one. NOW THAT would have made a fantastic ep. Shame the writer’s didn’t thing of something like this.
