Default What might Felice have done?

So, we've discussed Felice Schachter's role on TFOL, and how she had a major part in "The Girls' School", the backdoor pilot of TFOL, but somehow, by the start of the series, her role had been, in her own words, "severely diminished". She had a decent part in episode 4, "IQ", only.

According to Felice, she went to Al Burton, one of the producers, and asked what had happened to her part. It seems as though it was around that time that Nancy's boyfriend Roger was constructed, in order to give Felice something to do. It's a good thing they gave her Roger; otherwise she would have been left with "Let's see a fast finish!" and not much else. Mindy has spoken about Felice's "bum deal".

After "IQ", Felice would have no major role in the first season: from what I recall, she never even had more than ten lines per episode during that season, and there are even scenes where her parts are cut in syndication (I'm thinking primarily of her cut scene in "Overachieving", episode 5).

It makes me wonder what Felice might have done to cause the writers to "severely diminish" her role. I'm reminded of Friends, and how Joey Tribbiani said something to a journalist which caused his character on Days of Our Lives to be written out of the show by falling down an elevator shaft. Nancy didn't get killed, but she now rarely even spoke. She'd be in the scene, but with almost no lines. Tellingly, at the end of the season, Nancy didn't even make it into "The Group", and Mrs. Garrett takes her out to pasture... er, out to the garden... to put a flower in her hair.

Of course, this is all speculation, but I do wonder. Why would the writers go from using her frequently, to giving her "Let's see a fast finish!" ?

Idk if she did anything. More the producers took on more characters than they could handle. So they neglect one character, she asks for more and they threw her a bone. Similar to Jaimee Foxworth on Family Matters.

Did they throw Jaimee a bone? What do you think they gave her?

Her big line in "Running". We've discussed this line before, '80s!

Admittedly, the first time was in 2014, almost five years ago, so I suppose you can be forgiven for forgetting it. We were discussing the line-count for "Running", and I mentioned I had counted Felice's "fast finish" line. You said you weren't sure if that should be counted (it turns out it was actually in the script). Then in December of last year, I mentioned Nancy's "fast finish" line in the "Running" script thread.

All this to say: yes, "fast finish" is totally a wallpaper line, she was absolutely Nancied with it, and without her talking about Roger in that scene, I think "fast finish" would have been her only line in the scene.

I mean they gave her a few things in season 2, Fast Eddie Winslow, Ice Station Winslow, and Taking Credit comes to mind. Plus A Thought In The Dark in season 4.

Good to know. I had remembered her part on the show continually declining, to the point where even her mere appearance in the wedding was memorable, but I likely misremembered.

Well her appearances in season 3 were mostly wallpaper with one line if she’s lucky. Season 4 she was only in 9 episodes so when she appeared she usually got a few lines, minus the Christmas Ep.

Apropos, no?

Alright, alright. I have another theory about Nancy's declining role on FOL.

You know how Felice has said they all roller skated around on the set? Well, what if she were roller skating in the VIP parking lot, and then accidentally dinged the vehicle of a network exec like Warren Littlefield?

Once he found out, he blew his top: "There's TOO MANY GIRLS on this show!"

Atleast Nancy still makes appearances. Plus they were at a boarding school. Judy was the youngest daughter just not acknowledged by her family in the shows last 5 seasons.
