Default I would be afraid of the Chief if he was my dad, lol.

He could get physical. He slapped Katie and Julie in the face. Never saw him slap Samantha, but he may have off-screen. He threatened to tape Samantha's mouth shut. He also whipped the girls with his belt. I remember Samantha saying in one episode that quote, "It's murder when he spanks you". I bet! Not a father that you would want to give a lot of lip to. Why was the Chief so mean?

He was probably just very old fashioned and believed in the concept of tough love to keep his kids well behaved. Quite frankly, I feel that he was actually in the right for this and was trying to be his kids' parent, not their friend.

I didn't like him. I thought he was crusty, mean and nasty.

He seemed like an abusive parent. Even his own father didn't like him! I don't blame him, either.

Yeah, Grandpa was so laid back and Mellow compared to the Chief. Ed was more mellow too.

I will agree with you there. Some of the things that he would say and do were quite amusing.

I do not have a clear memory of that incident. What episode is it from?

The chief was grumpy and mean most often, but he was still my favorite character. The show pretty much jumped the shark after Dolph passed away imho.

I honestly think Chief killed his wife and hid the body with the help of Nell. Both seemed like murderous psychopaths who would have no problem with murdering people. Thank God Chief died, that was a true blessing for all! He was such a miserable psychopathic tyrant. I despise Nell Carter too! What a demon-like woman who was so violent and psychopathic and clearly not mentally stable! I know I'm in the minority here, but I hated the entire cast so much! End of rant.
