For example, mike bauer(don stewart) singing during papa bauer's funeral on guiding light. or mj mckinnon(sally spencer) singing during jake and marley's wedding on another world. how long has this been going on?

Y&R did an episode in the 80's that sang fairly recent hits of the day. I remeber "Total Eclipse of the Heart" was one song.

If I recall, Gloria Loring's character on Days Of Our Lives was a lounge singer if I'm not mistaken and she would sing on there a lot.

Even had a song called Friends And Lovers with Carl Anderson.

On As the World Turns, the character of Lyla Montgomery (Anne Sward) was a nurse by day and a lounge singer by night at Lisa's (Eileen Fulton's) fashionable eatery The Mona Lisa. The character of Lily (Martha Byrne) would also sing after opening The Falcon Club.

I recently found a clip from Search for Tomorrow that featured Jo (Mary Stuart) playing the guitar and beautifully singing Christmas carols from 1966:

Don Stewart(Mike Bauer) sang Christmas carols a lot on Guiding Light back in the day.

Sally Spencer(M.J. Mckinnon) sang not just at Jake and Marley's wedding, but at Cass and Kathleen's wedding too.

Her character was probably required to sing on a lot of episodes, so that's why she did it so much.

On The Young & The Restless, siblings Gina Roma and Danny Romalotti would sing quite often, sometimes together. Danny (Michael Damian) was a big rock star in the fictional burg of Genoa City and big sister Gina (Patty Weaver) owned the nightclub Gina's Place, where she often sang. Michael Damian would go on to score a couple of minor hits back in the mid-to-late 1980s, with his version of the song "Rock On" being his highest charting single.

I hate it unless it's done at the Nurses Ball (GH) or in another party like situation.

My favorite singing performance has to be when Ned sang "You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth" by Meat Loaf at the GH Nurses Ball a few years back.

The singing of onscreen married couple Macy and Thorne #2 was featured quite heavily in storylines during The Bold and the Beautiful in the early-mid 90's.

What about Caryn Richman and Randy Hamilton as as brother and sister Elena and Rikki Dekker on Texas? They sang TOO much too! Also, when Oklahoma Governor George Nigh and his wife Donna, appeared in walk-on roles (playing themselves as Governor and First Lady of Oklahoma) and Lisby Larson as Paige serenaded them!
