Default Joyce DeWitt's singing career

Something I come across again and again while looking at old articles is how Joyce DeWitt had hopes of starting a music career. She had a voice coach and recorded a demo and everything. In addition to nearly killing Three's Company, I'm sure Suzanne's successful Vegas act (plus Suzanne's 1982 Navy special) probably stuck in Joyce's craw.

Here is a People Magazine article from 1978 where Joyce talks about looking for a record deal: https://people.com/archive/cover-sto...-vol-10-no-24/. What kind of music do you think she would have recorded?

Suzanne's Vegas act had nothing to do with her singing but it was because she was considered one of the biggest sex symbols at the time.

I certainly don't think she was but for some reason much of the public did. I thought she was overrated from the start and TC would've been better with Cindy & Terri as the 2 Blonde roommates.

It's news to me that Joyce wanted to have a singing career. Didn't it occur to get she ALREADY won the lottery? 99.999% of us will NEVER be on a hit show! Joyce made MILLIONS from TC. She should count her blessings!

That is true, but singing was an integral part of the act. And for the 1982 Suzanne Somers Special she sang in front of 6000 sailors and it was televised.

It's clear that Joyce slightly resented Suzanne's success on Three's Company because Suzanne hadn't "worked" at acting like Joyce had. My point is that despite Suzanne's inexperience she was successful in the singing department, too, which I'm sure Joyce noticed.

Maybe but Joyce should realize that 99.99% of people who go to acting school don't get to star in a smash hit television show that was on magazine covers all over the nation & has been translated into over a DOZEN languages worldwide!

I'm sure she knows Suzanne only got that Las Vegas gig & associated roles because she had that blonde sexpot image although I did NOT think that way of her.

Yes, that sounds about right. Done in the style of Linda Ronstadt or the Carpenters. For some reason Joyce seems like the kind of person who would've leaned toward soulful, folksy pop-rock.

But not a stretch, considering how many artists covered Beatles songs in the 1970s.
