Maybe there's been a thread like this before but I couldn't find one.
I'm looking for people to post weird or strange collaborations of musical artists. It can be either a couple of solo singers or a solo singer teaming up with a band. But I'm looking for team ups that you wouldn't expect or the resulting song is strange or funny in some way. One post per reply please. Justified & Ancient by The KLF and Tammy Wynette. I'm starting off with this one because The KLF was a British electronic/"house" band, house being a style of electronic dance music. And Tammy Wynette was at one time American country music royalty at the height of her popularity. The lyrics to the song don't really make any sense (Tammy Wynette sings lead on it). It was released at the end of 1991 and made the top 40 in both America and England in 1992, so it was a "hit" song. But given the extremely different musical style from her traditional country sound and the nonsensical lyrics in the song I've often wondered why Tammy Wynette agreed to record the song with them. The whole thing is really strange to me. And I'll admit I really don't like the song. But maybe other people do and that's fine with me. But it's not something I ever care to listen to again. Ed. |

Eurythmics pairing up with Aretha Franklin in the 80s for Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves.
Again, because of the very different music styles. Aretha Franklin was "The Queen Of Soul". And had several R&B and soul hit songs. And Eurythmics was basically electronic synthpop. But I think their song is better than the first one I started this thread with. It's definitely more Eurythmics stylewise. If I remember Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart wrote the song. Then they asked Aretha Franklin to duet with them on it because they were both big fans of her. Aretha's vocals and the music do have more "soul" to give it a more enjoyable crossover sound overall I think. Still not a collaboration I would've ever imagined. Ed. |
