TV NBC Greenlights Two-Part Series Finale of "Timeless"

NBC Greenlights Two-Part Series Finale of Canceled Time-Travel Series "Timeless"
by Nellie Andreeva
July 31, 2018

"Timeless" fans will get closure. NBC has ordered a two-part series finale of the Sony Pictures TV-produced time-travel series to air during the holidays.

Stars Abigail Spencer, Matt Lanter, and Malcolm Barrett are on board. And executive producers Shawn Ryan and Eric Kripke assure fans, “they can expect the Timeless they know and love. A focus on the unsung and underrepresented people of history. And most importantly, one final emotional story for the Time Team.

While we wish we could’ve made another dozen seasons of Timeless, this is the next best thing,” said creators/executive producers Shawn Ryan and Eric Kripke.

We’re thrilled to take the Lifeboat out for one last spin and bring closure to our story. The studio, network, cast and crew are all doing this for one reason only: the fans. Because they deserve it. Because the fans made this happen and we thank them for their passion, support and helicopters. So? You guys want to get Rufus back or what?

We’re excited to tell one final chapter to this incredible story,” said Lisa Katz, Co-President, Scripted Programming, NBC Entertainment.

A huge thank you to all – our cast, crew, producers and partners at Sony – who have worked so very hard, and to the fans who kept us on our toes and made sure we did our very best week after week.

"Timeless" Finale Update
by Rebecca Iannucci
August 23, 2018

It will be a very happy holiday season for "Timeless" fans, who will officially get closure with the NBC drama at the end of this year.

In a series of tweets Thursday, "Timeless" writers shared that the series’ two-part finale movie — which was announced in July following the show’s second cancellation — will air in December, with production slated to begin in October.

A specific date and time have not yet been announced.

As revealed in the tweets below, series writer Lauren Greer (who penned the episode “The Day Reagan Was Shot”) will handle the script for the finale’s first hour, while Arika Lisanne Mittman (“Stranded,” “The Red Scare”) will write the second hour.

John Showalter, who has directed four previous "Timeless" installments, will helm both parts of the finale. “We can’t wait to take all you #ClockBlockers on this incredible journey,” the writers said in a tweet. “We’re getting to make these two hours because of you.

At least Timeless didn't take as long as Designated Survivor did to get a board.

NBC Sets Premiere Date for Two-Hour "Timeless" Series Finale
by Erik Pedersen
October 26, 2018

NBC has set a December 20 airdate for the two-hour series finale of "Timeless", the time-travel drama it canceled after Season 1 in 2017, uncanceled months later after a fan outcry then axed again in June after its sophomore run.

Timeless co-creator admits his team feels a "little cocky" of yet another comeback after "coming back from the dead twice now"

Shawn Ryan says "I don't want to give false hope to the fans," yet he's not ready to say goodbye to Timeless after last night's two-hour series finale. "It's hard for me to accept — and maybe if you ask me a year from now and nothing's happening on this front, maybe I will come to accept the loss of Timeless — but for the moment, anyways, it feels like while it's not the largest audience in the world, the Timeless audience is the most passionate in the world," Ryan tells TV Guide. "And you see a lot of examples in this television landscape where passion means a lot. I don't know what will happen, I'm certainly not promising something will happen, but I see examples of — you know, Veronica Mars, Psych — you see these shows being revisited and redone. So I think it's still possible."
