I've always been impressed by how much work in show biz that Mindy has done. 40 years of consistent work in the industry.

Yep, but Charlotte launched that career!


I always wonder what would have happened if Charlotte hadn't insisted on bringing in Mindy. With only six girls, would NBC execs have been more reasonable about cutting so many girls from the cast? What was the "acceptable number of girls" cut-off? Eight is Enough, which aired around the same time, had five girls. Would six girls on FOL have been deemed acceptable, or would we still have had a Cast Purge? If there still would have been a Cast Purge, who would have still gotten the axe, considering Mindy wouldn't have been there? One fewer head would have rolled... but who would have been saved from being shipped off to Dorm Z?

Who's to say there only would have been 6 girls? If not for Mindy and Natalie, perhaps "Laura" or "Jennifer" would have made the cut for 13 more shows!

That's a good point, '80s, and one I hadn't considered.


The show definitely would have been different without Natalie there to interact with Tootie. Imagine the episodes with Laura and/or Jennifer as one of the "Eastland Seven":

"Flash Flood": Laura and Tootie rush to the stables to rescue Leon when a flood hits Peekskill. When Mr. Bradley rescues her, Laura develops a crush on him.

"Laura's Holiday": Laura finds out her parents are getting divorced. She and the girls devise a scheme, involving Leon being "sick", to bring them back together.

"Dope": Blair gets Jennifer into a clique known as "The Group", whose members are marijuana smokers. Everyone dies from boredom, as Jennifer has no personality or backstory.

Thanks, guys! I had a good laugh, myself, thinking up those episodes. I'm not sure how many more stories could revolve around Leon and boring ole Jennifer.
