Default Happy Halloween! ("The Worst Witch" co-starring Charlotte Rae)

If you've never seen this TV movie that used to traditionally air on The Disney Channel in the '80s and '90s, this little gem is well worth a look It co-stars our Charlotte Rae in a dual witch role as Miss Amelia Cackle, headmistress and spells teacher at Miss Cackle's International Academy for Witches, and her wicked twin sister, Agatha Cackle!

It used to be up at YouTube, but isn't available there anymore---but it is on Daily Motion!

Happy Halloween!

Isn't it, though? I'd heard of this for years, and knew Charlotte was in it, but I never saw it until I found it at YouTube last October and watched it. It's a cute little movie. And how can you go wrong with Charlotte Rae, Diana Rigg, and Tim Curry in a movie about witches and magic?

On an interesting Halloweeny-related note, Diana Rigg succeeded Vincent Price in hosting "Mystery!" on PBS, which utilized the animated intro of Edward Gorey's drawings, which has found its way to this board with mock-up "photos", in the Gorey thread, lol.

I wonder why the Eastland Meets Sesame Street thread all of a sudden stopped?

Yeah, just put yourself back in the frame of mind of being back in the 1980s, and you'll enjoy this little nostalgic TV film.

So, I did watch TWW tonight, as a cool Halloween treat.

I was surprised at how similar the plot is to Harry Potter: a young witch spends her first year at a witches' school, where the witch teachers are very hard on her, and she's sabotaged by a mean blond witch at every turn. Meanwhile, evil witches plot a take-over of the school, and the protagonist must save the school while at the same time not getting expelled. Even the school cafeteria, with its long row of tables, seems to be very similar.

Still, I enjoyed it! The combination of "Dorothy" from Return to Oz, and "Mrs. G", and Tim Curry, and the cheesy '80s special effects, made the night spooktacular!

Isn't it fun?

And it's nice to know that TWW came before Harry Potter.

And how delightful to see "Mrs. G" with an evil twin!

Yes, JK Rowling has a lot to answer for!
