Default Bella Thorne says that she only had $200 after her Disney Channel show got canceled

Bella Thorne says that she only had $200 to her name after her Disney Channel show "Shake It Up" got canceled.

During an interview with the Los Angeles Times, the actress elaborated on how her life changed after the show (which also starred Zendaya) officially ended in November 2013, when she was 16 years old. Thorne previously said in a Vogue documentary that she had $200 in her bank account when she turned 18.

When asked about what happened to the money, she told the Los Angeles Times: "You know where it went."

The 21-year-old didn't specifically reveal where her earnings went, but added that she was blindsided by the financial shift.

"I didn't think things were going to go down like that," she said. "And then half of me is like, 'Come on, Bella. Look at your whole life. Don't be naive. You knew somewhere deep down inside things were not right.'"

Thorne also said that when she wasn't financially stable at 18, she moved in with then-boyfriend Gregg Sulkin and couldn't afford to pay for their meals.

The Los Angeles Times pointed out that according to California law, money earned by minors working in the entertainment industry belongs to them, not their parents. However, minors aren't legally allowed to control their own money, so a Coogan Account is created and 15% of a minor's earnings are put into the trust account.

Since legally becoming an adult in October 2015, Thorne hasn't specifically revealed what happened to her earnings.

Previously, she told MTV's Josh Horowitz that it was "really hard to get a job" after "Shake It Up."

"People didn't want to read me," she said. "They didn't want to see me because they were like, 'She's a Disney actress.'"

Nowadays, Thorne makes money by starring in several movies each year, preferably films that are darker and grittier. Social media has also proven to be a profitable route for the actress, who has a combined total of more than 20 million followers on Instagram and Twitter. She was able to buy her own house based solely on the money she earned from sponsored posts.

Thorne has also been open about her past financially struggles. Prior to starring as CeCe Jones on "Shake It Up," Thorne was living with her single mother named Tamara and her three siblings, Dani, Remi, and Kaili. Thorne's father passed away from a motorcycle accident when she was 9 years old.

In 2017, the Thorne said that she wasn't a singer or dancer at the time, but she auditioned for the show because her family was "about to live physically on the street if I didn't have that role."

"We were living off Stouffer's coupons, and that's all we had to eat every day," she added.

Thorne shared similar thoughts in her Vogue documentary and said being on the Disney show "wasn't a choice. It was, 'This pays the bills, this is what you do.'"
