I can't believe how much I used to love this show. now the whole will they get together thing is just annoying. Carol gets engaged and we know that Dennis is gonna call it off during sweeps and leave the town. It's predictable. There has to be more to the show.
What the writers are doing wrong is that they are not developing Ed's character. Every show they have his subplot of all of his lawyer stuff, then the rest of the show he's worried about what Carol is doing. They need to stop that. they need to move on and deal with other issues. Ed's character is not growing at all. I think it would work better if they stop the will they get together thing and focus on other things and then spring the relationship on us. I don't know, what do other Ed fans think? |

I couldn't agree more. Have you been peeking at my notes?
They made a big mistake trying to get Ed and Carol together too early in the series. They should have done another season like the first, with Ed trying to charm his way into Carol's life. It really helped keep the spirit of the show on the lighter side. The subplots with Ed and Carol dating different people while the other looked on in jelousy got really tired. Now we are going to be treated to another season of Ed moping around while Carol plays kissy face with Dennis... Getting back to what I was saying before, having Ed chase Carol was essential to Ed's character. We first meet Ed after his marriage and his big bucks job goes down in flames. Does that bother him? No! He goes back home with Frank Capra determination and starts a new life, his smiling face and quirky charm just daring someone to rain on his parade. It was this spirit that made the show so winning in season one. Now sadly, it is gone. Another problem is they have pretty much abandoned Ed's law practice. There were many great subplots involving the various oddballs that Ed represented, but they seemed to have moved away from that, by making Warren and his High School misadventures a recurring storyline. Don't get me wrong, i think some of that was really great, but watching Warren AND Ed strike out with the women they love is just too damn depressing! Well, that's my Ed rant, IheartMoonlighting. If things keep up the way they are, I seriously doubt Ed will be around much longer...

IheartMoonlighting writes:
"Ed's character is not growing at all." I would have to disagree. One thing I hated during last season was how Ed just stood around and watched Carol get involved with Dennis. Watching Ed on the season premiere I noticed a new fire in ED and how he was not so passive about Carrol anymore. He seems to have a renewed energy to win back Carrol unlike before. Of course the engagement is going to throw a wrench at him but if the writing style continues from the 3rd season premere Ed won't give up. TJL writes: "The subplots with Ed and Carol dating different people while the other looked on in jelousy got really tired. Now we are going to be treated to another season of Ed moping around while Carol plays kissy face with Dennis..." Yes, last season was very much like that, but I think this was done for a purpose. Having Ed be this determined charming, quircky person that lets nothing effect him would get old after a while. They have to develope Ed but without totally abandoning his character traits. I think you could catagorize Ed's slight trait adjustments each season by the following Season 1: Determined charming Ed Season 2: Mopy, depressed Ed Season 3: (so far) Smug, smirky, renewed energy Ed Yes there was a little moping on the season premeire, like with the Danny Divito character conversations, but I personally was very surprised (and refreshed) to see Ed stand his ground with Carrol and Dennis and even use some smirkiness like he knew he was right. For instance when Dennis wanted to fight Ed at the park and Dennis was telling Ed he had his chance with Carrol and didn't take it, and that she was his now. Ed responded with "Is that what you think, carrol is yours? Well, what was Carrol's answer to your proposal". I think they are giving Ed the perfect transition from the moping dummy who isn't sure what he wants, to someone that knows time is running out and better get on the stick. And rather than having him suddenly figure things out overnight like most shows, its a gradual reality check for him. TJL writes: "He goes back home with Frank Capra determination and starts a new life, his smiling face and quirky charm just daring someone to rain on his parade. It was this spirit that made the show so winning in season one. Now sadly, it is gone." I agree this dtermination left a little bit, but this is what I see coming back this season. TJL writes: "Another problem is they have pretty much abandoned Ed's law practice. There were many great subplots involving the various oddballs that Ed represented, but they seemed to have moved away from that, by making Warren and his High School misadventures a recurring storyline." If you saw the 3rd season premiere then I guess you must like what you saw. Warren was only in one scene and none of his friends were there. Also, they mixed in a law practice story along with the Carrol/Dennis/Ed adventures. |

Once Ed and Carol get together, the whole entire point of ths show is over and I think the writers realize that they have a problem on their hands. The only reason why we saw so much of Warren last season is because the writers had no idea what else to do with the show. They needed a subplot so they decided to use Warren. In the first season, he was a likeable character so that was their best bet.
Everything is just gonna get old. As soon as Carol breaks off her engagement with Dennis, what's gonna happen??? Ed is gonna think he has a chance. and nope it won't happen. Ed will have yet another girlfriend and then Carol will be pissed off and then she will start to date somebody again and the cycle repeats itself again. The writers can't end each season with, ohhhh it looks like Ed and Carol will get together. they are gonna have to get them together once and for all and when that happens, they are probably gonna date for a while and break up. I agree with you, I don't think the show is gonna last for too much longer because right now the storylines are pretty thin. If it does get picked up next year, NBC is probably going to move it back to Sunday nights. Quote:

Well I'm glad somebody thinks he's growing but I sure don't. Every single time I tune into the show it's always the same thing, Ed trying to find a way to get with Carol. It's annoying.
This entire season, well until sweeps. We are gonna have to sit through episode after episode of Ed trying to find a way to stop Carol's wedding. Why can't he just let it lie and find somebody else to do or worry about something else for a change. He's a one thought pony. Quote:

It might be easy to predict the general path of things this season (because you know kelly rippa is coming back and we know on next weeks show Carroll is getting enganged) but its how they get there thats the fun part isn't it? And I hardly think Ed is a one thought pony. He's also a lawyer and a bowling alley owner. There are lots of storylines about these situations in addition to Ed's friends and Warren C. and his pals. |

It certainly looks like things are getting interesting in Ed's life. Now he has to choose between two women. Personally. I would choose Kelly Ripa, but I'm no bowling alley lawyer.

I used to love Ed, but now I'm starting to find it really boring and melodramatic. I've never understood what Ed sees in Carol. I think she's really annoying. I wish Ed would try something with Molly. I think they have good chemistry.
I also want to see the return of the $10 bets and Godfrey jokes, the return of Dr. Jerome and Kenny, more Ed and Mike scenes, the return of the quirky lawyer cases, and Carol marrying Dennis and moving far away. |

I agree completly. They have to get back to more of the original humor - Mike and Ed together are always funny, and they've got to get Ed back to practicing law. More whimsy - less worry, folks...

I also think that the writers know that the whole will they or won't they get together thing is getting old. so the Cliffhanger will be that they actual sleep together and we have to wait till next season to see what happens. |

From they way things ended tonight, it looks like Ed and Carol won't be speaking to each other for a while. Maybe they will keep them a part for the time being, and get back to some comedy and some stories involving the other guys..
All in all it wasn't a bad episode - maybe Ed has finally realized that Carol will never be his, unfortunatly he figured that out after he gave Kelly Ripa the heave-ho, which is what I figured would happen. I also liked the bonding between Phil and Eli. They had some good moments. I gotta tell you, Mike's breakdance routine was the funniest thing I have seen on the show this season! I was laughing out loud! ![]()
