I loved this episode especially when she flirts with Barney. But where did Miss Crowley get an autographed baseball? Does she always carry it in her car?

Haven't saw this episode in quite awhile. The first two seasons aren't favorites when Andy talks intense southernly.
I rewatched it after seeing this thread. It's a cute episode. Barney and Floyd's characters are forming into their classic stage. Jean Hagen is marvelous. She steals the show. I looked up Imdb trivia on her. Sad she died at just 54. A pretty big star in her day. The first Danny Thomas wife on Make Room For Daddy(90episodes). Mayor Pike died 2 months after the original airing. The episode is a duplicate of Andy pulling over Danny Thomas in the tags sort of pilot in Make Room For Daddy. The signed baseball handy is odd. Also, driving 70 mph on a dirt road in a convertible with the top down will make a filthy interior. She really put Andy in his place. She could of owned the town if she wanted to. Not a classic but very enjoyable. |

A good but not great episode, so I agree with the previous post by vitoscotti.
Jean was from Elkhart, Indiana, where my older brother is employed. In her day there was just one public high school (now 2, but combining back into 1) so very likely she was an Elkhart High grad. |

Jean Hagen also played "Lina Lamont" in the movie classic "Singin' in the Rain."
I am always amused when Miss Crowley compares Barney to Frank Sinatra. To me he looks marginally more like Fred Astaire. |

I don't much like the episode because of Jean Hagen. I don't see her appeal. And I think she has a nasty edge. I'd like the episode better with a different actress.

On the subject of Jean, she also played the mom in The Shaggy Dog, and one of my favorite 60's flicks Panic In The Year Zero! (I wasn't yelling, the exclamation is part of the title.

Yeah I wasn’t blown away by Jean either. Now if the lady speeder was Susan Oliver or Ruta Lee you would have Barney, Floyd and Andy eating out of her hand like in Prisoner of Love.

Jean spent 3 very unhappy years playing Danny Thomas' wife on "Make Room For Daddy" and Sherry Jackson explained in an interview that Jean, Danny, and director Sheldon Leonard often got into shouting fits with each other on the set (while taping in front of a live audience) and Jean quit the show after her contract expired. Danny was so upset with Jean that he never spoke to her again and went out of his way to avoid her if they appeared at the same events.
