There's probably another thread about this somewhere but I can't find it.
Which well known highly thought of movies do you consider vastly overrated? I'm not talking about Friday the 13th, Part 12, but major motion pictures. There's one movie that is often named as the greatest movie ever made which I had never seen. I had tried to watch it several times but never made it past halfway. Yesterday I finally sat through the whole movie. I'm talking about Citizen Kane. Now, I love old movies so it wasn't the fact that it was old and certainly not that it was in black and white. I haven't got a clue why anyone would consider Citizen Kane a great movie, let alone the greatest of all time. The only thing that I can think of is that William Randolph Hearst - whom the movie is about - eventually became a right-winger and the left wing movie community hated him so much that the hit piece, which Citizen Kane is, is irresistible to the liberals. To contrast, Casablanca, which was made around the same time and also in black and white, is one of my favorite movies. |

I'm not really a movie person to begin with, though I did look at Netflix once when a relative gave me a password. I don't like any of the remakes as the original is usually the best, I can't suspend my belief with horror movies or any which mock religion like Life of Brian.

I agree, Citizen Kane and Frozen are extremely overrated.
Lord of the Rings movies...really boring and draggy, to me. |

I didn't even like that one!!! Much to the dismay of pretty much EVERYONE at that time! My boyfriend at the time wasn't into it either and everyone else LOVED it so if we said anything against it it was like we were almost shunned!!

These are from the movies that I've seen which have huge followings and high box-office charts.
Some of these I do like, but do not think they warranted the huge praise they received. Grease (1978) The Ring (2002) The Twilight Franchise Men in Black (1997 original) Titanic (1997) Avatar (2009) Inception (2010) Crash (2004) The Hangover Franchise The 40-Year-Old Virgin (2005) |

First thing I ever saw Oscar in was Inside Llwelyn Davis! He played a folk singer from the early 60's ! Great movie, kind of strange. And he did his own singing. He's a very good singer as well as actor. Anyway i was like Who is this gorgeous man!!??
