Polly Holliday - she could have been in constant competition with Thelma Lou for Barney's affections.

I'd have voted for the late Elena Verdugo to have done it. She actually was a native Californian from a family that had been among the Spanish founders of Los Angeles but she could have definitely added some Latin flare to Mayberry! And she was attractive enough for Barney to have believably swooned over!

Dolly Parton as Juanita possible scene. Gomer pyle walks into the Bluebird Diner. He lays eyes on the Parton Juanita. He says " Shazam....golly....surprise, surprise."

I don't think a exlpanation is needed.

I always imagined Juanita having dark hair, for whatever reason. If I had to name an actress, possibly Linda Cristal (b. 1934, best known for The High Chaparral series).

Lindal Crystal, Paula Prentiss? Two of the most beautiful woman ever? Working at the bluebird diner and love interest of Barney Fife? I was thinking cute but not a bombshell.

Jogging my memory if I remember Paula Prentiss even had a sister? I see she was In "The Out of Towners" which I liked a a kid and plan on seeing again down the road.

Check out her imdb trivia. Yikes!

Ann had a very troubled life. Things went terribly wrong following the ups of her career.

She had the distinction of appearing in the very first episode of The Courtship of Eddie's Father with Bill Bixby, and I'll tell you she was quite hot in that appearance.

Just for fun, I was thinking that the ideal face for Juanita would be like Jackie Joseph's, and maybe ponytailed hair like Joan Taylor's.

I always had a mental image of Juanita very much in character with Miriam Colon. When Barney is talking to her on the phone, that is the face that I see. Question, does anyone know of a specific episode where Thelma Lou is aware that Barney and Juanita share a fondness for one another? I can't recall one.

For some reason I'm sort of imagining Yvonne de Carlo, but I don't think many women who looked like her would have been working in a greasy spoon diner in the early 1960s (or would have been interested in Barney, either). Lol!

I like the idea of Elena Verdugo.

Alternate choices: Anne Helm or Gale Garnett

I could be mistaken, but Juanita was shown once on the show in the episode when the movie producer wanted to use Mayberry for his movie. She was the Mayor's daughter and sang a song, I believe.
