Default Tim Allen: 'My Mother Told Me I'd Fail'

Comedy actor Tim Allen had to defy his mother to make it in Hollywood - because she wanted him to choose a more modest career.

The Wild Hogs star's mom was convinced he would never achieve his acting ambitions - and urged him to set his sights lower.

He reveals, "My mom used to say, 'You aim a little too high. You expect a little too much out of life. How about a civil service job? The post office. There's nothing wrong with that. You get a health plan.'"

Hola!

Well, Tim Allen (Dick) is and was kind of a dumbass. He got caught selling a large amount of cocaine, a former jailbird. His comedy was not really that funny (he's still not funny) if my son came to me and said I have a comedy act, and he started pulling out power tools and grunting like a caveman, I would have advised honest work myself.

I think a lot of being a celebrity is a lot of luck, no matter how much work is put into it, it is about timing and having the right connections. Tim Allen got real lucky. Hopefully he is not snorting his fortune up his nose.

Many many people find him funny. Not everyone can agree on what's funny. Luck has nothing to do with it. If viewers don't find a person talented, their show will fail. Connections can open doors, but the rest is up the the performer. That's why we often see the offspring of celebs have crappy quick careers that burn out fast.

Tim paid his debt to society for his crime 25 years ago. Tim sure looks like he's doing well. A hot wife and laughing all the way to the bank.

You said it, Janice!!! HI was one of my favorite shows from my teen years, and I still laugh when I see the reruns. Who can ask for more than that?

I think that's terrible when parents try to discourage their kids from doing what they really want to do. If the kid ends up failing, it's just a learning experience. She should be proud of his success; not because he's a big star, but because he did what he set out to do. I'm sure her intentions were good, but my parents would discourage me from so many things, and years later I would think "what would have happened if I would have at last tried to do what I wanted to do?

That happened to some other actors too. Sherman Hensley from the Jeffersons went to NY to make it and had a hard time for a while but he didn't come home because he didn't want his mother to tell him, I told you so.
