I’d like to do my own top ten best episodes to go along with this thread.

1. “Louie Sees the Light” - Scared of an operation, Louie promises to God that he will be the best person he can be. Bobby then decides to test him… with hilarious results.

- My favorite bit in this episode was sadly cut from syndication, so I saw it for the first time on DVD. It’s where Louie offers a piece of candy to Latka saying “Have one.” Latka then precedes to eat one after another after another. When he’s done, Louie says “I said have ONE.” Latka replies, “Oh you said ‘have one’? I thought you said leave one.” Bobby’s reactions while Latka is eating the candy is priceless.

2. “High School Reunion” - Ashamed of his life, Louie decides not to go to his high school reunion. Instead, Bobby goes pretending to be his slime ball of a boss.

- The thing I love about this is that for the first half of the episode, it’s just the cabbies sitting around Mario’s talking. These characters are all interesting enough that it keeps my attention. Louie’s story about the highchair is also quite heartbreaking in a way. Then of course, Bobby’s impersonation of Louie at the reunion is fantastic, making this an all around great episode.

3. “Bobby’s Acting Career” - Bobby gave himself three years to get an acting job. When the three years are about up, he becomes desperate to get a job.

- When I recorded the series off of Nick at Nite in 1998, this is one of the episodes I liked to rewatch a lot. I don’t know why, as nothing really sticks out. It’s just an episode I really enjoy. I guess a memorable moment is when Bobby goes off on Alex for suggesting he’s not a good actor. Just as Alex is about to walk out the door, Bobby stops him and says “So you still think I’m not such a good actor?” The audience went crazy, and the cabbies were all relieved (especially Alex) to know Bobby wasn’t really upset. Of course, I’ve always felt Jeff Conaway was an over actor on this series… and that scene is no exception.

4. “Paper Marriage” - When Latka is about to be deported, he has to marry a prostitute to get a green card.

- The first appearance of Christopher Lloyd as Reverend Jim makes this episode such a classic. The actress who played the prostitute in this episode went on to play another prostitute in a few episodes of “Night Court.”

5. “Bobby’s Big Break” - Bobby gets a recurring role in a soap opera, which causes him to fight with Louie and proudly walk out of the garage, however…

- The scene where Alex is pleading with Louie to leave Bobby alone upon his return to the garage is one of the most classic and memorable of the whole series. I also love the last scene where Bobby thanks Louie for not messing with him, only to have Louie mess with him.

6. “Hollywood Calling” - A smarmy Hollywood director comes to the garage to study the cabbies for an upcoming film he’s making.

- I just like this episode. Especially Louie’s reaction to being offered ten thousand dollars. After he says “That’s not quite the figure I was thinking of but okay.” Alex asks him “What was the figure you had in mind?” Louie responds with “I was gonna ask for twenty-five dollars!”

7. “Blind Date” - Alex goes on a date with Angela Matusa, a very depressed and angry overweight woman. While he’s not attracted to her, he can’t get her off his mind.

- When I watched this as a kid, I was skinny. Now I’m overweight and the episode hits closer to home. I mostly love the final scene between Alex and Angela.

8. “Money Troubles” - John Burns and his new wife, Suzanne face a crisis when her parents plan to move away, which means they won’t be paying the newlyweds’ rent anymore.

- I actually like John Burns. I’m okay with him leaving the series when he did. I just wish they would have explained it. But as for this episode, I’ve just always liked it. From Latka practicing phrases for his dinner at the Burns’ to John trying to shove the bed back into the couch but is unable to and so he sits on it as is in front of Alex who responds with “A couch that turns into a highchair.”

9. “Friends” - Tony leaves his two goldfish with Bobby while he’s away. However, Bobby’s carelessness causes the fish to die.

- This is another episode I don’t have much to say about. I just like it. The first season is the one with the least amount of really good episodes, so it’s kinda hard to pick ten favorites. Though there are only a couple episodes I find lackluster (“A Full House for Christmas” and “Sugar Mama”) the rest are just run of the mill episodes. I liked the spotlight on Bobby and Tony’s friendship in this one.

10. “Alex Tastes Death and Finds a Nice Restaurant” - After Alex gets shot in his cab, he becomes too afraid to continue being a cabbie, so he becomes a waiter.

- Pretty much what I just said in the above episode goes for this one, too. I like it, but I don’t have much to say about it.

Yeah, that was a good one, too.
