It seemed sort of stilted and rushed. I knew he wanted to leave to make his variety show, but he couldn't have gone out with a bang?
Disappointing. |

It should have ended with Gomer being shipped out to Vietnam.

While I don't remember how the Gomer show ended, I haven't seen it in a long time (though I do plan on seeing the series again very soon) BUT I do know the sort of sad feeling after you've watched the last episode of any series you've been watching from the beginning. Last week I watched the last episode of That Girl, and was sorry to see it go. I could watch the series over again but I usually go on to a different series when one ends. I'll get back to That Girl again in a few years. But it's sad to say goodbye (for a little while at least) to a series you've enjoyed each week, had the same feelings when I saw the last episodes of Real McCoys and My Favorite Martian recently too. Good shows all, some shows I don't mind saying goodbye to though, I look forward to saying goodbye to Joey Bishop Show in another year or so and I found even a show I used to think was funny Dobie Gillis rather tedious by the time the final episode rolled around. Some I'm glad to give a long rest, others I'm not ready to say adieu to.

Oh, I wasn't sad that it ended. I had really had enough of it - certainly enough of Sgt Carter's abusive behavior. In this era of #metoo, he made me really nervous.
It just didn't seem that the writers tried very hard to wrap up the story in a nice neat package. Gomer had tried to transfer before and it didn't happen. This episode, with him painting the duty hut and getting yelled at, didn't seem like it would thwart his behavior Just sayin'. |

I kind of liked the finale. Yes Carter was over the top on his reaction but I enjoyed the flashbacks. I thought it was a little of a finale feel to it.

I saw the last episode a few weeks back and was a bit disappointed. I felt Gomer should have transferred. The production crew , I assume knew this was the last episode of the series and since the show did end, it could have had Gomer off screen doing another stint in another place. Or Gomer could have called it quits for the Marine and maybe go back to Mayberry.
