Actually it is called The Facts of Life and other lessons my father taught me. It is a really great book. It talks about her becoming a Christian and some of the hard times she has had and how she has worked through them with God's help.

If you are ever feeling down, this is a great pick-you-up book. It can really make you feel better after reading it.

I saw this in a book store today and skimmed it looking for "Facts" material, and personally, I was pretty put off by some of what she was saying. As for her controversy over not appearing in the sex episode, I agree with Mindy: "Okay, there's you as a person, but then there's you as an actor."

I think Lisa has grown since she wrote that book.

As for the sex episode, it's so weird that she refused to do that episode, but did do the abortion episode. WTF!?

lol, true. There are a couple of threads on this board about surprise at Lisa doing episodes about not believing in God (or, at least, being angry at God), and Tootie pondering having sex, or planning to have sex, but not doing the one where Natalie actually did have sex (I found those threads when looking for a thread on Lisa's book, and searching the phrase "my father taught me"). And this is a good point, too. Maybe because it's not about choosing abortion, but showing it as something that has very hard consequences? I dunno...also, one of those threads I alluded to mentions how Lisa said somewhere that she took things more seriously in the last few years of the show than she did earlier, but, that doesn't match up with season 3*, where Blair was supposed to lose her virginity; but, maybe that was such an enormous ordeal for Lisa that she felt she had to speak up about it (even if she were trembling, which she says in her book she was).

*(interestingly, elsewhere we always seem to hear it was season 2 where they planned for Blair to lose her virginity; Lisa's book is the only instance I know of season 3 being claimed as the infamous season)

She also had no problem doing the Male Strippers episode, which was a lot more risque than the episode she backed out of.......

That's a good point, Gemini: the strippers episode for sure, and what about the prostitution episode? And as '80s says, she did all those episodes where Blair was questioning/angry with God.

Regarding male strippers, maybe she liked how Blair was so disgusted by it in the script? At least when she saw Cliff doing it, anyway. She comes down on him too hard IMO, so maybe she liked just how negative Blair preached against it. And the prostitution one definitely was a lesson to young girls to STAY AWAY from that. Her reasoning in her book to be written out of the sex episode doesn't make sense; to me, anyway. It just seems odd.

And regarding anger at God, in those other threads somebody said something like it's natural to get angry at God and place blame, and God can be misunderstood by well-meaning people, etc.

Blair didn't have a problem with the Male Strippers until she seen her boyfriend up on that pole. She was a hypocrite in that episode, she was willing to see strange men (who wasn't her boyfriend) strip naked but had the nerve to catch a case once she seen her boyfriend doing it.......

It's like a guy going to the strip joint with his homies and being all cool until he seen his girlfriend up on that pole THEN he wants to get mad.

Well, I think the difference is Blair wasn't going for herself, it was all in fun for Mrs. Garrett as a "crazy way" to celebrate her birthday. And they weren't naked, but I don't remember how far down they stripped, lol.
