I'm sure we won't have as many of these because they take a lot more time than haikus and limericks, lol, but I thought it'd be fun to try nonetheless. I thought I'd dedicate the first one to the charter 7 girls from our dorm:
The Eastland Seven O Nancy with her long and raven hair, With Roger on the phone all day and night Sue Ann from Kansas made it way out there To further studies and prepare for life Blair thinks her beauty 'way above the norm She's lost in her blond hair and chestnut eyes And Cindy major athlete of the dorm She loves to play at sports and exercise There's Natalie who loves to joke and laugh She keeps the mood lighthearted all day long While Molly is a budding feminist Who won't let men oppress her, that'd be wrong And Tootie is the youngest one of all You'll often find her skating down the hall ----------------------------------------------------- Sonnets are 14-line poems with 3 stanzas of 4 lines each, and a final couplet of 2 lines, done in Iambic pentameter (da-DA da-DA da-DA da-DA da-DA --- 5 in each line - though you can vary it a bit to not have all 14 lines sound the same, if you want) in the following rhyme scheme: A B A B C D C D E F E F G G |

That is most excellent, '80s! Awesome!!! Not only is the sonnet very good, but what a great subject as well!
I am reminded of Nancy's recital. |

lol...whether limericks, haiku, or sonnets, we can all step behind Mr. Bradley's podium in the common room when reciting our poetry, lol.
Quote:
To Cindy O Muse, I sing of Cindy Webster now The goddess with the hair of golden braids Despite her fam'ly life she does avow To pass her classes with excelling grades To her athletics are the joy of life In baseball, hockey, running she transcends One finds her jumping rope should there be strife Yet once a conflict fades she makes amends She loves her fellow girls as sisters, all Supportive, caring, teammate, friendly girl She'd rather have a racket than a doll Of tomboys, she's the best in Eastland's world O Maiden of the Corn, we sing our love We praise thee Cindy shining from above! |

An ode to my 2nd favorite Lost Girl:
To Molly Sing I, o Muse, of Molly Parker here One of the seven girls whom we first knew From season one some fans do hold her dear She silently got "lost" in season two This freckled feminist demanded rights As equal that of any adult males She even set her future grown-up sights Presiding at GM and saving whales She plucked the strings of her wee brown guitar And belted an environmental song And sang in pain when her own daddy scar'd Her with another 'gal he brought along Her bowl cut made her stand out from the crowd And "New Girl 2" was whence she fin'ly bowed |

O, to stroll along Eastland's halls "barding" sonnets to all! That would be the life! lol
To Nancy O Nancy Olsen, first of all the girls! We sing your hallowed place in Eastland's halls Your hair, it catches eyes as it unfurls Cascading down like raven waterfalls You met your Roger during season one And knew right then your love was meant to be You gushed for hours on the phone for fun And Switched-On Sizzlers, o, if he did see! Psychiatry is your professed career And when upset you straighten things at hand When gossip comes you grab a globe that's near Umbrellas, though, have cursed you o'er the land "The Group" excluded you, lo, so unfair! Come Nancy, now, a flower for your hair |

This is another impressive effort, '80s! You have a real knack with sonnets! Shakespeare and Norman Lear would both be proud.
The only line on this one that I don't understand is "And Switched-On Sizzlers". When did Nancy and Roger go to Sizzlers? I would revise that line, if possible. Still, these are gorgeous, and I'd hate to see them only viewed here. At some point, would you... consider... giving them wider viewership on YouTube? There's a YouTube channel where there will eventually be tribute videos for all the Lost Girls, and these beautiful sonnets might make nice intros or outros. It's okay if you don't want that, but I thought it can't hurt to ask. |

Retro, don't you remember Blair's father's fashions from "Warner Fashions - Henri of Hollywood Division" in "Adoption"? And that pink and purple nightie with the blinking light bulbs outlining the "bosom"?Nancy: "These are called the 'Switched-On Sizzlers' - when Roger sees me in this, he will die!" Quote:
