getTV just started airing the Norman Lear sitcoms ("All In The Family", "Good Times", "Sanford and Son"). I've noticed that the picture quality is different than when they aired on other stations like Antenna TV. It's almost like they tried to digital enhance the picture but it actually looks worse. Does anyone actually think it looks better?
I also notice that getTV speeds up some shows. "Tour of Duty" was the most obvious example. It was so annoying and unnatural that I would not even watch anymore. |

The prints for All in the Family are certainly not the ones they used for Antenna TV. For one, they’re less edited, which is good. Unfortunately, they are stretched for widescreen, which is not.

I'm watching "All In The Family" now on getTV and it is definitely sped up. I always thought that Antenna TV showed fewer commercials than most of the other channels and is nowhere near as bad as Freeform or TVLand.

It looks like they put AITF through a "filmlook" process, or it was a bad conversion from HD back to SD. Whatever it is, combined with jerky motion, it's not good.
It has the same look as "Mama's Family" on MeTV, although that doesn't look as bad as AITF does. I'd bet if they rolled the original credits on AITF (which they don't), you'd really see the jerky motion. |

Oh wow - I just noticed it last night. The jerkiness when people are moving is TERRIBLE. As long as no one moves too quickly, it is fine.
I don’t know why they do this. You can’t show a videotaped show in HD. Videotape simply doesn’t have enough resolution (as opposed to film, which has a higher resolution than HDTV). Just leave the damned thing alone. |

They did the same thing to Diff'rent Strokes when it was shown on Starz Black. They had to re-remaster it--I could tell, because it was eventually corrected.
I haven't seen the other shows GetTV picked up to see if they screwed them up, too. |
