R.I.P. Jim Nabors

Several years ago my mother and I had the pleasure of meeting Jim Nabors. It happened accidentally at a hotel where we were all staying. Jim Nabors was as nice and friendly to us as he always seemed on TV. He will be greatly missed.

Does anyone know which episode of Gomer Pyle Jim Neighbors sang Vive la compagnie? That was the first time I ever heard him sing. I had absolutely no clue he could sing and was completely astounded at his voice. I remember the basics of the episode. The marines were appearing on a TV show. Sgt. Carter was supposed to say "Let's hear it for Henshaw", a marine they were honoring, and then Jim Neighbors would sing. Sgt. Carter kept blowing his line and they wanted to cut him out. But Gomer wouldn't sing if his friend Sgt Carter was cut out. So the punch line was that instead of giving Sgt. Carter the line they put him in bandages as the man Henshaw saved.

Gomer sang on some of his Andy Griffith appearances that led to his Gomer Pyle spin-off. One of those episodes was when everyone in the choir wanted Barney Fife replaced when Gomer sang a lot better on his solo. Jim Nabors also had a variety hour where he sang.
