I am watching this episode right now, on METV. Pyle is at his most irritating in the first 4 minutes of this episode!

I love the show, but that's a very weak episode. When I saw it was that episode I set my DVR to skip it. Shouldn't judge any series by the worst episodes. It's worth forgiving the few times Gomer got a little too irritating. It's usually a great show, and Gomer and Sgt. Carter are very funny characters.
