Post Married

Hey all,

Im glad some one remembers this show, not many people do now a days.

Question - I always thought that the comedians Joan Davis and Jim Backus were married like George and Gracie. Were they or is my child hood version wrong LOL.

Joan Davis also played in some movies, I see that you dont mention that here. I remember she was with Abbott and Costello in the one with the roulete tables going around in the walls. Anybody know of any other movies??

Joan & Jim were never married to each other. In fact I have read in the past thatJim Backus hated Joan Davis. One reason being is that Joan would play tricks on Backus which he didnt like.

Joan davis did do some movies in the 30s and 40s and was really big on radio in the 40s.
I believe her show was called Leave it to Joan.

Joan Davis was married when she was doing I married Joan but I'm not sure who he was but
I believe I Married Joan was one if not the last thing she did before she died of a heart attack in 1961.

She was fairly young when she died. Believe in her early 50s.

Didn`t Joan have a daughter? I believe she died in a house fire.

TV 'What a Girl, What a Whirl, NOT His Wife!"

Anyone who's followed Jim Backus' career for any length of time knows he often referred to his beloved wife Henny....

Sadly, Joan Davis' daughter, Beverly Wills (who, oddly enough, played Joan Stevens' sister in the series), died in a house fire in 1964...

It was worse than that: Besides her daughter, Joan Davis's mother and her two grandsons (Beverly Wills' young sons) also died in that fire. It was an incredible tragedy.

This is what appeared in the papers:

Here's an interesting article on the apparently sad life Beverly Wills lived that, it seems, led up to that tragic night:

She starred in the movie "Traveling Saleslady" in 1950.

In the month of Oct of 2017 Decades tv ran a few episodes. I had never seen the show and thought the plots were quite funny. I did google Joan and read she died soon after the program and her daughter died in fire. Some times one wonder about the actors you seen from 55+ years. The article about daughters Beverlys life should paints a different picture that the characters she play.
