this is an ongoing project for me. I have more episodes I have to transfer over, but at this point, I have 36 discs, 144 episodes of American Justice/Notorious. I have created menus on the discs.
Hosted by Bill Kurtis, this series takes a look at notorious crimes and criminals that made headlines, and how they were handled by the American justice system. They are good quality and many episodes were recorded directly from satellite. Here is a sampling of episodes. The Disappearance of Madalyn Murray O'Hair ~ once deemed "The Most Hated Woman in America", O'Hair founded American Atheists and was instrumental in getting the Supreme Court to ban prayer from schools. O'Hair spent her lifetime protesting religion when she disappeared at age 76 with 2 of her relatives. Dancing, Drugs and Murder ~ Michael Alig was the leader of Club Kids, a group of New York City club-goers who were (in)famous for their outlandish costumes and behavior. But the party was over when a drug dealer was found dead in Alig's apartment. Preppie Murder ~ preppie college student Robert Chambers was accused of murdering lover Jennifer Levin in New York's Central Park Rape in Connecticut: The Alex Kelly Story ~ Young, handsome and coming from a rich family, Alex Kelly did not fit the profile of most rapists. But that is exactly what he was, raping several underage girls in the mid 80's A Parent's Nightmare ~ Before there was JonBenet, there was Jacklyn Dowailiby, who was abducted from her home and murdered. Her parents were accused, with the father being convicted, then later released. To Save Their Souls ~ John List murdered his wife, 3 children and elderly mother, and went on the run. John Walsh is interviewed. Free To Murder Again ~ Kenneth McDuff murdered 3 youths, went to prison, and was released due to overcrowding, despite protests. His murdering ways continued, and he murdered 4 more, including the abduction of Colleen Reed from a car wash, and her subsequent murder. The Perfect Murder: The Shannon Mohr story ~ Dave Davis murdered his new bride, Shannon Mohr, by lethal injection, and passed it off as a horseriding accident. He went on the run. He was apprehended in American Somoa after a viewer of Unsolved Mysteries recognized him. Unsolved Mysteries host Robert Stack would say this was the most fascinating segment of UM, out of about 1500 segments aired. A Model Murder ~ Linda Sobek was an up and coming model, Charles Rathburn was an up and coming photographer, whose work was profiled in several magazines. But when their paths crossed, it was deadly. Murder on the Boardwalk ~ Kosta Fotopolous videotapes the murder of a drifter. What Happened to the Candy Heiress? The Helen Brach Story ~ Helen Brach, heiress to the Brach candy fortune, disappears in 1977, and several suspects abound. Kill Thy Neighbor ~ MENSA member George Trepal annoys his neighbors, then poisons their Coca-Cola beverages. Murder in Greenwich: The Martha Moxley story ~ The wealthy community of Greenwich, Connecticut has a low crime rate. But on Halloween Eve, Martha Moxley was killed, and relatives to the Kennedys are suspected. Traces in Blood ~ Diaizen Hossencrofft is suspected in the murder of his lover, Girly Chew, and his odd behavior mystifies nearly everyone. Mother on Death Row ~ Darlie Routier is accused of stabbing 2 of her sons to death. Presumed Guilty ~ After being twice convicted of the murder of young Jeanine Nicarico, and being just days away from execution, Rolando Cruz is found innocent at his third trial, and the real murderer is put behind bars. Hunt for the Unabomber ~ Ted Kaczynski murders and injures several with mailed bombs. Aileen Wuornos ~ Arguably, America's first female serial killer. BTK Killer Speaks ~ Dennis Rader terrorizes Kansas for 3 decades. The California Killing Field ~ Leonard Lake and Charles Ng kidnap, torture and kill many including women and children in a bunker. The Girl in the Box ~ a hitchhiker is abducted and forced to spend 7 years in a box. The Polly Klass murder ~ Klass is adbucted from her home and killed. Her father becomes an activist for abducted children. Jeffrey Dahmer: Mystery of a Serial Killer ~ Dahmer infamously tortures and murders many young men and boys, then eats and keeps the remains. Andrea Yates ~ murders her 5 children. The Green Beret Murder Mystery ~ Dr. Jeffrey McDonald is accused of killing his pregnant wife and 2 children, but says hippies did it during a home invasion. The Trial of Louise Woodward ~ Woodward, a British nanny working in the U.S., is convicted of murdering an infant left in her care, but in an extremely controversial decision, the judge tosses out the jury's verdict and lets her walk free after a short sentence. Atlanta Child Murders ~ dozens of black boys are murdered in Atlanta. A race war ensued, until the killer turned out to be a black man - Wayne Williams. Like Mother, Like Son ~ "The Grifters" Sante (an Elizabeth Taylor lookalike) and Kenny Kimes, a mother and son duo, spend their lifetimes conning and murdering people, and are believed to have had a sexual relationship. The Menendez Murders ~ In wealthy Beverly Hills, California, Erik and Lyle Menendez brutally murder their parents in order to collect early on their inheritance. The Night Stalker ~ Richard Ramirez terrorized Los Angeles in the mid 80's, entering the homes of victims and murdering and raping many of them. His bizarre behavior included leaving Satanic scribbling on the wall. plus many more!, feel free to ask for more details. I am available for trading |

I have a special Bill Kurtis hosted called "Manson: Notorious Crime and Trial". I don't think it's officially an episode of American Justice, but it has the same feel to it. It's on a disc of 3 other specials Bill hosted, including programs on Jaycee Dugard and Joran van der Sloot. I think I also have a special called "The Manson Women" or something to that effect.
Figuring out just how many episodes of American Justice there are and what they are is very difficult. There are a couple episode guides out there, but neither of them are the best ever. Further complicating matters is that the show was more or less renamed "Notorious" in recent years. Additionally, the Bio Channel sometimes airs episodes of Biography as Notorious. The episode guide for Notorious I have as episodes of other shows such as City Confidential thrown in there, it's a mess. It's all very confusing. Jonestown sounds familiar, I may have to look into that. |

Do you have the episode "The quiz show scandal and other frauds"? I'm interested in the whole collection.
