Does anyone remember the 1990's "Get Smart" show? Well, I was thinking, first of all, it should have been called, "Get Smart Now!", so as not to get confused w/ the original 1st series, second, wouldn't it have been funnier if they had 66 be Zack's twin sister, rather than the twin sister running away and just having 66 as some new agent like they did? I mean, it could have been like, a funny sibling rivalry thing, you know? What does everyone else think?

....the 1995 FOX version of "GET SMART". I remember it for one reason: Andy Dick. Ugggh.....it was on for exactly seven weeks, and abandoned. Some things you shouldn't try to revive.....

Andy Dick ruined the show. He was a bad choice for Max's son. Now I'm not saying that this show would've lasted longer under anybody else, but I'm convinced Andy just wasn't right in this role.
I saw all the episodes aired on FOX originally and still believe the show had great potential. Also, the female leader of KAOS I always believed was the twin of Zach Smart. |

Interestingly, there was a bit of press about it here in Australia, although I don't know that it subsequently aired here. It is on DVD here though.

I remember hearing about it and that it sucked big time. I read somewhere that Andy Dick sensed how bad it was and that it wouldn't last very long so while he was still doing it he signed on for NEWSRADIO on NBC.

I agree that Andy Dick was not a good casting choice.
Too bad that Jim Carrey was dong In Living Color; he would've been good as Max's son. Other choices could've been: Jim Parsons Thomas Lennon |

Raunchy jokes plagued the series, but by the time they got to the Seigfried episode and the finale, "Liver Let Die", they found their grove and the show was axed prematurely. I wonder if the producers knew of the fraternal twins and ignored thesister to keep plots simpler. Or if they forgot and, had the show survived, bring her in later on since most shows - new or revived - have a habit of retconning themselves back and forth. Andy Dick and Elaine Hendrix had little on-screen chemistry, though in terms of performances hers as 66 was stronger or at least more consistently strong compared to Andy Dick's Zach. Didn't he want to be there or was something else going on behind the scenes? I still think he did reasonably well as Zach, but ultimately the show is another "What could have been". I was quick to buy the DVD set as well. |
