Default CAROL'S BABY?

I just watched Season 5, which ends with Carol announcing she's pregnant. Did she ever have the baby?

Nope. After that announcement, no more mention. Nothing about losing it or anything like that.

Considering all the struggles Marcia Wallace later went through to have a child [ultimately resulting her in adopting her son], I wonder how she felt about her character announcing the pregnancy then have that development totally dropped without even the slightest attempt of explanation? I can't imagine the late Miss Wallace would have just shrugged it off.

I don't remember that episode. I wonder if they decided not to have her have a baby for the same reason Bob didn't want the Hartlys to.

I've read that the last episode of season 5 where Carol and Emily announce pregnancies was originally written to be the series finale but that the network convinced (read paid) Newhart to come back for season six. He didn't want children on the show which is why Emily never had one in season six but that doesn't explain why Carol didn't. Also, after Newhart agreed to do season six, the writers re-wrote this episode to make it all as a dream. I guess that's why Carol never had her baby since this whole episode was just a dream of Bob's.

Emily does tell Bob that Carol's pregnant when he wakes up. Emily herself turns out not to be pregnant, of course. So they left that unresolved? Carol could have had the baby and talked about being a new mom in the last season, or at least there could have been a tacit acknowledgement of it. But, as I recall, the last season was somewhat ragged because many of the writers left after Season 5, thinking that the show was over. Season 6 didn't even have proper opening titles; they were superimposed on the opening scene of each episode.

The last season is tied into the final episode of Newhart. No spoilers.

I definitely remember a season 6 opening sequence/song, distinctive from other seasons because it showed their new apartment and Emily had a new hairstyle.

I think they superimposed the title over the scene (i.e. with no song) in only a few episodes that season.

As for Carol's baby, it was only a passing reference between Bob and Emily in the last few minutes of the season 5 finale. As I recall Carol herself never appeared with an announcement or anything. Still, it's curious they never provided an explanation for dropping that potential storyline.

yea, that's also what I remember from season 6 when the show first aired in the 70s, and from when Nick at Nite used to show it.
