Default Ann Sothern

I'm sorry to start this discussion off on a sad note, but for those fans who may not have heard, Ann Sothern passed away on March 15th of this year at the age of 92. In addition to her work on "Private Secretary" and "The Ann Sothern Show", she was also well known to sitcom fans as the voice of the car (a "1928 Porter"), Jerry Van Dyke's mother, in "My Mother The Car". She also co-starred in the first episode of "The Lucy-Desi Comedy
Hour", playing her "Susie MacNamara" character. (It's my understanding that in real life, Ann Sothern and Lucielle Ball were very close friends). She will be missed.

Does N@N or TV Land plan to air this show? I think Ann Sothern also appeared several times on The Lucy Show/Here's Lucy.

It really hurt me very much when I heard of Ann Sothern's passing back in March. She was such a sweet lady and a remarkable actress. SUSIE and THE ANN SOTHERN SHOW are two of my favorite classic TV shows. I used to stay up late when I was a kid and watch them on Nick at Nite. I have been a huge fan of Miss Sothern's ever since. I emailed both Nick at Nite and TV Land several months back to see if there were future plans to re-run episodes of either SUSIE or THE ANN SOTHERN SHOW, but I have yet to receive a response.

From a website I found: Denny Jackson's Ann Sothern Page
http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/H...0/sothern.html

Ann Sothern died of heart failure on March 16, 2001 in Ketchum, Idaho at her home. She was 92. Her only daughter, Tisha Sterling, was with her when she passed.

I met Miss Ann,by mail, back in 1988. I found her to be a very gracious ,dear lady. I wrote to her off and on for several years, finally stopping simply because I did not wish to appear to be a pest or some kind of nut. I never asked that she reply to the rest of my letters, I told her it wasn't necessary. I did receive an autographed picture once though and I promise you I won't be parting with it. I simply wrote to her so she would not feel forgotten. She was much too talented for that let alone for any other reason.

I've just came across Ann Southern from purchasing "I Love Lucy" and "The Lucy Show".

Ann and Lucy both work well togethor,I liked Ann as the Countess and the way Mr Mooney gushed over her.

I read that Ann was going to be Lucy's new Co-star on "The Lucy Show" but she insisted on an on screen co star role like Vivian Vance had but Lucy turned that down, dunno how true that is,The Countess didn't return after series 4.

You sound like a very gracious person, yourself. That was great that you had that experience. I discovered her as a nine year old that watched Nick at Nite when I watched reruns of The Ann Southern Show and Susie (Priv. Sec.) The only Ann Southern Show ep I have is when Lucy came to visit. I loved that ep. LOL.

I don't know why she'd be forgotten, especially in 1988. That's the year she was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for The Whales of August!
