NBC’s Best Sitcoms… According to Adamantium!

These are my favorite sitcoms that were broadcast on NBC. There are some classic shows that I left off the list. Even though I can acknowledge those shows are popular, I don’t consider them favorites of mine.

1950s (Not a great decade at all for NBC’s sitcoms)
There are no ‘50s sitcoms I am really a fan of from NBC. Shows like The Life of Riley and Mr. Peepers are good but I haven’t seen enough of either to put them on a list of favorites.

1960s
The Bill Cosby Show
Car 54, Where Are You?
Get Smart
The Joey Bishop Show
The Monkees

1970s (They weren’t that great this decade either! Yet the one I picked is one of my favorites.)
Chico and the Man

1980s
ALF
Cheers
Dear John
Diff’rent Strokes
The Facts of Life
Gimme a Break!
The Golden Girls
The Hogan Family (aka Valerie and Valerie’s Family)
Mama’s Family (only seasons 1-2 were on NBC)
Night Court
Punky Brewster (only seasons 1-2 were on NBC)
Taxi (only season 5 was on NBC but I love that season!)

1990s
Blossom
California Dreams
Empty Nest
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
Friends
In the House (only seasons 1-2 were on NBC)
Jesse
The John Larroquette Show
Mad About You
NewsRadio
Nurses
Saved by the Bell
Saved by the Bell: The College Years
Saved by the Bell: The New Class
Seinfeld
3rd Rock from the Sun
The Torkelsons
Wings

2000s
Cursed / The Weber Show
DAG
Joey
My Name Is Earl
The Office
Scrubs (Only seasons 1-7 were on NBC)
30 Rock

2010s
Community (only seasons 1-5 were on NBC)
Parks & Recreation

Now I will add a Top 10 List using the shows I have chosen
1. NewsRadio
2. Community
3. Wings
4. Parks & Recreation
5. The Office
6. Chico and the Man
7. Cheers
8. Night Court
9. The Monkees
10. ALF

Since Taxi only had one season of its five season run on NBC, I simply didn’t count it for the top ten list.

For some reason the NBC schedule was light on sitcoms in the 70s. They seemed to care more about hour-long dramas then.

Yeah, I was looking at the Fall schedules in the back of the TV book “The Complete Directory to Prime Time Network and Cable TV Shows.” I guess CBS dominated the ‘70s with their Norman Lear sitcoms and even ABC did well with their more fun shows like Happy Days.

Sanford and Son was probably their biggest hit sitcom of the ‘70s but I’m not a fan, so I didn’t include it on my list.

NBC in the 2000s was all about crappy sitcoms (with a few exceptions, which are on my list) and reality shows.

Those two programs were NOT sitcoms. They were hour-long dramas.

The Carrol Burnett show
Get Smart
WKRP in Cincinnati -I AM NOT SURE IF THIS IS CBS OR NBC.

I am limiting this to my top 8 NBC sitcoms and/or shows.
The Carol Burnett Show was CBS, and an hour-long variety show.
WKRP... was also a CBS program.
