is it the short-lived NBC primtime version from 2008 or the longer-running Syndicated version from 1989-1996?

The old version by far. The new one had waaaaaay too much chit-chat. Six events in an hour and a half? The old version did 7 or 8 in an hour! And whose bright idea was it to turn the quick and decisive eliminator into a 10+ minute endurance test? That defeats it's purpose entirely!
Plus the redux got rid of the best events, introduced some terrible new ones and ruined Powerball. Gladiators weren't rotated much (did Crush and Titan OWN joust or something?) and...season champions becoming Gladiators? What were they thinking? NBC officially killed the franchise, I doubt it'll ever be restarted because network short-sightedness will chalk up it's failure to lack of interest in the show, when in reality it failed because it was simply a terrible revamp. Done right, it could be a substantial hit. |

Yeah, but that reminds me they did a kids' version. Gladiator 2000 I think it was?

And now that reminded me of the copycat show Wild West Showdown! I haven't thought about that for probably 15 years! And the film parody "American Flatulators" which is probably even worse than I'm assuming.

I believe G2000 was hosted by Idol's Ryan Seacrest right?
and I for never ever thought about American Flatulators which i'm assuming it's all about passing gas but wouldn't be weird if their was anther parody called American Gladdiators?BTW notice the spelling of "GLADD" instead of "GLAD" |

Definitely the original syndicated version. It spawned a genre of similar competition shows.

I will give the new version credit for having a few of my favorite gladiators. I wouldn't mind bending the fabric of space to instert Toa, Jet, and Venom into the original series.

I have always liked the syndicated version, which i saw in late night on Saturdays. The new one had waaaaaay too much chit-chat. the syndicated version had 6 to 8 events in a hour.
I remember how cheesy the set was during season 1.0 in 1989. and the hooded guy as referee. |

Their was a rule in "Powerball" where you could NOT tackle. it was enforced after contender Zimbob Schwartze was excessively tossed around by the female gladiators, and they kept disqualifying the gladiators, that there was just two remaining!
