The Mortons had to go to New York for several months while Harry was working on an account with a major client there.

Gracie insisted on traveling to New York too so she could be with Blanche. Obviously George had to go with her. As he puts it "I'm going there for the food. Not because the food in Beverly Hills isn't good, but, if I don't film the show where Gracie is, there is no food."

THANK YOU!! FINALLY somebody answered me after 6 months, I've been searching all over the web for an answer but couldn't find one and it's been driving me CRAZY!!!!

......they stayed at General Service Studios during the entire "New York season". However, George finally loosened his wallet a bit, and actually spent some additional production funds to recreate several facets of the actual "St. Moritz Hotel" [his art director and set decorator worked from photographs taken of the lobby, the dining facility, and several rooms].

They are just finishing their visit to New York and will be back in California in the beginning of season 7. Mrs Sohmer and Gracie were hilarious. Acress Doris Packer moves around in 1950's and early 60's. Dobie Gillis, Leave it to Beaver.

About the humor, he was SO right. The scenes with that waiter, who wrote Gracie's answers down, were hilarious. Also, the scene with Mrs. Sohmers and Gracie (Why, Mrs. Burns, you're SERIOUS!) is priceless!

I did also think this was a bit of sitcom cross referencing, long before such a thing became fashionable. I Love Lucy went from New York to California in that same year, so Burns and Allen did the reverse. And yes, the change did inspire a number of great episodes.
