Default Atlanta Child Murders

I'm interested to hear what others think about Wayne Williams and the Atlanta Child Murders. I believe he is guilty of the two adult murders of which he was convicted, but I'm unsure about the others. I hate to think that there is a killer(s) still out there that murdered that many children.

I haven't been following the new evidence that closely, but I do think there's a possibility he got railroaded by the police. What I want to know is, if he didn't do it, who did?

I actually believe he is fully innocent. I do not believe he killed anyone. These killings are rumored to be done by the KKK or copycat killers, but I feel much of the evidence against him was circumstantial. I dont know if any DNA was involved, Im sure that would have held the key.

I think he is evil and totally guilty.

Glad he is in jail where he needs to be.

Carpet fibers found on one of the child victims matched the same fibers in his car.

I won't go into all the details. It is a moot point.

Since he was arrested, the murders stopped.

He is guilty as hell.

My uncle worked on the investigation and he told me the case was a sham, they were under tremendous pressure, even by the president, to "wrap it the hell up." The carpet fibers were evidence, but what you didnt hear was that those fibers were prevalent everywhere in the South at the time and werent as unusual as the Prosecuter claimed.

In addition, he also told me that Wayne Williams was an arrogant self centered guy who liked to make himself more important than he really was, and in that sense he fit the profiling perfectly. He had the unfortunate luck of picking a lawyer who really was out of her league. A better team could have gotten this case acquitted or even dismisssed.

The evidence against Williams was really circumstantial. I am sure if the bodies are exhumed, DNA evidence will exonerate him. You see, it wasnt mentioned in the press, but many of those boys and young men did hustle and engage in homosexual activity with local men, and there is a movement of people who always felt pedophilia played an important role in the murders. A KKK link has also been mentioned, but my uncle said it was probably not true unless they were working with blacks to lure the kids. One child, who was eventually murdered himself, said he saw one of the boys in a car with a white man, and that a white man had threatened him with a gun. This was supposedly ignored by police. The offer of money would have attracted many of these boys to go with strangers, so my uncle thought.

SO, although you may think he is guilty as hell, many of the people who worked on the case believed the exact opposite, but in a way were relieved to see it go away. That was the state of affairs in Atlanta at the time.

Bumping this old thread because I delved into the case this weekend after being familiar with, but not particularly knowledgeable about it.

Wayne Williams is undoubtedly a bullsh*tter of the highest order and I do think he is guilty of the two murders for which he was convicted, but I'm not sure I think he committed all of those attributed to him, and I certainly do not think the other murders should have been presented as evidence by the prosecution.

While it isn't lost on me that the murders stopped after Williams' arrest, I guess I have a hard time reconciling the fact that someone would graduate from murdering children to grown men as Williams is alleged to have done. I guess it's possible, but it seems extremely unusual.

I remember watching a film about this subject that starred Gregory Hines that suggested that there may have been a weird conspiracy involving the KKK and a child sex ring that went all the way up to public officials in the ATL area.

I also find it hard to believe that Williams acted alone or fully responsible for those murders. I believe that there was much more to the story than we'll ever know.

There's so much information out there about child sex ring cover ups and the ATL child murders seems to fit in with the pattern (think of Jimmy Saville) :

1) Conflicting evidence
2) Possible connections with higher political powers
3) A large amount of victims
4) An alleged perpetrator in jail who claims to be part of a larger conspiracy

It's sad but I believe the answers are still out there.

Until there is overwhelming evidence of a conspiracy, besides hearsay and conjectures, I go with Wayne Williams being guilty. I apply Occam's Razor here. What is the most likely and reasonable?

- That a wide racist conspiracy exists, involving KKK people killing and raping young boys to trigger a race war. They find the 'perfect' patsy in Wayne Williams, who is actually willing to play the part because he is a bull****er extraordinaire. This goes totally undetected by both authorities, law enforcement, justice system, and DNA testers even to this day.

OR

- That Wayne Williams was serial killer who went for young black boys because they were readily-accessible and vulnerable, until he got brazen and escalated to adult gay men. He got sloppy in his last killings because these were in fact harder to discard, so he got the attention of the authorities. He felt cocky enough to toy with them, like they had nothing on him, while the murders suddenly stop and never restarted since Williams has been jailed.

People who believe in the KKK-conspiracy, conveniently forget two things:

1. Williams' own testimony at the bar while being counter-examined. From a mild-mannered person while examined by the defence, he literally became Mister Hyde in front of a whole jury when he lost his cool while being cross-examined. That, in the end, is what convinced the jurors - just like when they saw Ted Bundy's infamous monster face when - as his own defence - both surviving victims AND police witness were recollecting the crime scene in front of him in the tribunal for the Chi Omega sorority house killings. It became obvious he was revelling in every detail.

2. Parents during the Atlanta Child Murders were such in a state of panic, that they made sure their children KNEW that they had to distrust strangers - that is white strangers. There was still doubts that those murders could be the results of racist KKK men. And yet the victims all went willingly with someone and died, because they were not suspecting that person. That points to someone having a reputation as being trustworthy inside that community, which Williams was as a young producer of black talent and wanna-be journalist.
