"Black Sails" Captain to Recur on "The 100" as Rogue Grounder

A "Black Sails" star is setting a course for The CW in 2016. Zach McGowan will recur in "The 100‘s" third season, playing a rogue Grounder named Roan, according to The Wrap.

Like most characters on the survival-centric series, Roan “will stop at nothing to get what he wants,” though his desires remain shrouded in mystery for now.

The fate of Ice Nation King Roan (Zach McGowan) on "The 100" has been revealed. The CW's post-apocalyptic series has promoted McGowan to series regular for season four, EP Jason Rothenberg announced Friday during the show's Comic-Con panel.

Roan's fate was left up in the air by the end of season three. In part one of the finale, "Perverse Instantiation," Roan tried to help Clarke (Eliza Taylor) and set up a tentative Ice Nation/Arkadia truce. But their plan was doomed from the start since A.L.I.E. (Erica Cerra) had convinced Jasper (Devon Bostick) to eat a City of Light chip, so she already knew what they were attempting to do when they walked into Polis.

When they realized that their plan wouldn't work, Roan tried to give Clarke a head start in her escape, and a chipped Kane (Henry Ian Cusick) shot him. He was last seen seriously bleeding, being dragged away by other chipped Grounders. McGowan's promotion to series regular means that Roan will survive his gunshot injury and will play a bigger part moving forward as the King of the Ice Nation.

"The 100" returns for season four in midseason on The CW.
