Me-TOO in Chicago aired this episode today, the full episode including the part where Gomer sings Put On A Happy Face to the little girl. On the DVD from CBS, the song is cut from the episode. This is just one example that shows CBS gave Gomer Pyle fans the royal shaft with these DVD's. Numerous music segments are cut from the episodes because the studio doesn't have rights to the songs??? The whole thing is bogus legal crap, it's totally insane.

One reason I am hesitant to buy Happy Days on DVD. I don't know if I can stomach watching the show knowing the original songs have been edited out and replaced. What would be the difference between a channel airing a show a million times over WITH THE ORIGINAL MUSIC vs. a dvd with the music intact? Same difference.

I just watched this episode yesterday on Youtube. Good story, but the song had been cut out.
Why? |

Apparently the DVD was sourced for the youtube upload, which would explain the cut scene. I've seen this episode several times, like on Me TV or My Network, with the song intact. It's all about not obtaining rights for DVD release I guess.

The only logical reason I can see is that dvd's are obviously intended to be sold thus a royalty would have to be paid to the rights owner of any song used in this series or any other. There might be a better way to explain it but I think you get the idea. |
