Best Workplace Sitcom

WKRP edges out Barney Miller. I would have loved to see a crossover with those two shows.

One of the greatest ensembles, they just played off of each other perfectly. They were all perfectly cast in their roles. Adequate acting and writing! I don't know if Paul Simms is working on any show currently but some show should snatch him up, he clearly understood the relationships and the inner workings of his characters. How I miss 2003 on Sitcoms Online. When there were more fans of NewsRadio here. I know this post was from over ten years ago but Paul Simms is currently working with Donald Glover (Troy of 'Community') on his very own FX show called Atlanta.

As for the poll, it looks as if Cheers is the current winner.

A three-way tie for me with Mary Tyler Moore, Dick Van Dyke and Frasier. All three were equally divided between domestic and work situations, which made them all great.
I'll never understand those who liked Night Court or NewsRadio. Silly, stupid humor.

What's wrong with silly, stupid humor? Are you a comedy snob or something, lol? There's place in the world for all types of comedy. I love NewsRadio (my favorite show ever) and I love Night Court but I also love Mary Tyler Moore and Dick Van Dyke (not big on Frasier, I have to admit). I do love, however, Taxi, Wings and Cheers (which are related to Frasier).

NewsRadio is kind of like a fast paced, '90s version of "Green Acres" set in an office (which by the way "Green Acres" is the main character's favorite show). Dave is the boss to a bunch of wacky people that slowly drive him insane.

I never used to care about Netflix but now since so many people discover shows that they passed up during its original run, reruns and DVDs, I think it's an important thing for a show to get noticed. I wish "NewsRadio" was on Netflix but sadly it is not. It is, however, on Amazon but you gotta pay for each season and you only get to watch it on Amazon, you can't download the episodes and then burn them onto disc or anything (to make your own DVD box set). "NewsRadio" hasn't done all that well in syndication either but thankfully it sold well enough to get all five seasons (in four box sets) on DVD and later a re-release by Mill Creek but as I mentioned before one of the episodes is missing from that set.

Yeah. I'm seriously considering buying the Sony complete series set since I think (you can prove me wrong on this if I'm wrong) that it's just all 5 individual seasons packaged together, so it's the same 12 discs. Am I right? So all the special features, commentaries, and the missing ep on Mill Creek's set is there? I'm thinking this may get picked up by Laff one of these days, but I do want to buy the complete series set considering it's only $30.

Personally, my favorite working place sitcom is WKRP in Cincinnati. I know Adam doesn't like it, and I don't know why, because it's a really talented ensemble cast. I love it and own the complete series set that Shout put out.

I can't pinpoint anything that specifically I don't like about the show. It just never did anything for me. And I've given it a few chances. Gordon Jump was pretty good on the show, I'll admit that and I like the music in both the opening and closing credits.

I will also admit that because "NewsRadio" is always being compared to "WKRP" and usually loses in polls, it has gotten me to be bitter about the show, which isn't fair because they're really not connected in any way other than being ensemble sitcoms set at a radio station.

Even though I've said before that I'll never buy the "WKRP" DVD, I may break down one day and buy it. I don't know. I'm weak for complete series, whether I love the series or not. I think people need to hold an intervention for me, ha-ha.

I know, I love "WKRP" and I'd probably like "NewsRadio". I could picture myself doing so. I agree, it isn't fair that they're compared that way. You should seriously try giving "WKRP" one more chance at least because if you watch it without comparing it to "NewsRadio" you may like it.
