Sad A Sad Farewell to Patty Duke

http://www.cnn.com/2016/03/29/entert....html?adkey=bn

Patty Duke, best known for her initial teenage fame on her self-titled 1960s sitcom, died today at age 66.

Per CNN, her agency confirmed Patty died of Septic Shock as a result of a ruptured Intestine.

She was born Anna Marie Duke on December 14, 1946 in Elmhurst, New York, the youngest of 3 children (including an older brother, Ray).

After her parents divorced when she was age 8, Patty was raised by John and Ethel Ross; as she stated in later interviews, as a child Patty was severely Abused by John.

In 1963, at age 16, Sidney Sheldon cast Patty in the dual role of Patty and Cathy Lane, identical cousins, on a sitcom aptly titled "The Patty Duke Show," reruns of which aired on Nickelodeon from 1988-1993 after its 3-year run ended in 1966.

In the intervening years, Patty became a parent herself--3 times.

Her first marriage, a brief one to Michael Tell, produced a son, Sean Patrick Duke (born on February 25, 1971 in Santa Monica, California); Sean was later adopted at age 3 by her 2nd husband, John Astin, whom she married later in 1971, and with whom she had her 2nd son, Mackenzie Alexander Astin, on May 12, 1973; after her marriage to John Astin ended by 1985, Mackenzie found greater fame in later episodes of TV's "The Facts of Life," while Sean co-starred in many films, including "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, "The Goonies," and appearing with Kirk Cameron in "Like Father, Like Son."

In addition to Sean, John and Mackenzie, Patty Duke is survived by her 3rd husband, Michael Pierce, with whom she has an adopted son, Kevin.

Why write your own obit? Here's the actual article from the CNN Link

(CNN)-Patty Duke, the actress who won fame with her stage and screen portrayals of Helen Keller in "The Miracle Worker," died Tuesday, according to her agent. She was 69.

Duke died of sepsis from a ruptured intestine, according to a statement from Mitchell K. Stubbs & Associates, the agency that represented her.
Duke won an Academy Award in 1963 for her portrayal of Helen Keller in "The Miracle Worker," a role she also played to acclaim on Broadway.
She was also known for roles in "Valley of the Dolls," "My Sweet Charlie" and "Me, Natalie," as well as for the "The Patty Duke Show," which aired from 1963 to 1966.

Very sad news.

I guess I've misunderstood though. I thought Patty Duke and the man who's Sean Astin's biological father were never married. My mistake I guess.

Patty Duke's career reminds me a lot of Sally Field's. Both achieved fame as teenagers starring in sitcoms that will never be mistaken for artistic masterpieces and then grew to become well-respected and highly-talented Oscar-winning actresses, although Patty's Oscar came at a very young age.

RIP and God Bless Patty Duke and all of her family, friends, and fans, including our own Patty Duke. My prayers are with you.

The obituary is wrong though. Patty Duke was married once before, before her very short marriage to Michael Tell (A whole 13 days until they had it annulled!). She was married to her first husband about 4 years but they had no children together. Even by then she was drinking heavily and had erratic behavior because of her manic-depression. For which she wasn't properly diagnosed until 1982.

But I think she handled the whole thing with poise and grace.

When I heard the news, I thought of the same thing, Sally Field. Both had shows on the air in the mid 60's and were in the same age group.
