Default Amos Tupper or Mort Metzger?

I vastly preferred Amos Tupper over that idiotic jerk Mort Metzger.

First of all, the original is almost always the best. Tom Bosley was a tv legend (Happy Days) and his Amos Tupper character was more of a kindly grandfather type and seemed to be a good fit for small town Maine. Metzger was a New York transplant that seemed to generally hate the residents of Cabot Cove and had a chip on his shoulder to boot.

Secondly, while both of them could be naďve at times, Amos had more of a camaraderie with Jessica than Mort. Additionally, Amos seemed more interested in his job than Metzger, who only took the job because he thought it would be a much lighter workload. Mort seemed annoyed whenever he had to perform any actual work and only seemed interested in the perks of his position.

And as if all that wasn't enough, I think Amos had much better chemistry with Dr. Seth Hazlitt (William Windom). They had sort of a love-hate relationship that was fun to watch.

Down with Mort, Amos all the way!!

I like Amos Tupper more. I'm a bit biased because I like Tom Bosley as an actor in general

Mort by a landslide. Although I like both Tom Bosley & Ron Masak, the accent Tom used on the slow was literally like nails on a chalkboard. Other than that I had no problems with Amos Tupper. Oddly enough, I haven't seen every episode yet but my top 3 so far ("Murder Takes the Bus", "Keep the Home Fries Burning" & "If a Body Meet a Body") all feature Amos.

I don't care for either of them, but if I had to choose I guess it would be Mort. He's the only person in Cabot Cove who first started asking the question, "Why is JB Fletcher always around when someone gets murdered?" I guess nobody else in CC ever picked up on that?
