What was his son's name on the show? What was his real name? I heard he died in real life too. What did he die of?

His name was Hugh O'connor and he played Lonnie Jamison. He commited suicide by shooting himself. He was high on drugs at the time.

Lonnie was the one with the long hair right who wore shades most of the time? I didn't know he was Carroll O Connor's son. He doesn't look like Carroll.

Carroll put him on the show hoping that he could keep him away from drug dealers. But sadly it didn't help. I have on tape an interview that Carroll did after Hugh's suicide. It was heart wrenching. He sued the drug dealer and won(I think).

If memory serves me, Carroll and his wife (Nancy?) adopted him while in Italy. Carroll was doing a film. Cleopatra? With Elizabeth Taylor?
Yeah, can you tell how fuzzy my memory is? Someone once suggested that Howard and Hugh both tended to look a little sweaty and rough in the first few seasons because they were hopped up a bit while filming. I think more so with Hugh. Even though I was young, I could tell something was just "wrong" with him. Maybe that's why I could never stand Lonnie. I thought he was sleazy, but now that I look back, I think Hugh's issues were just bleeding through. As someone said, his acting was horrible. They should have just given him a recurring role as a loveable, trying to go right druggie and he would have been set. Oh, I'm bad. |
