It's amazing how many people that were either related to Jeremy or where friends of his have died since he disappeared.

Also, Terry Steinhoff, one of the suspects, died of a drug overdose while in prison on an unrelated murder charge (I think about 15 years ago). Dennis "David" Steinhoff and Hoyt Richardson, two of the other long-held suspects, are still alive and have never been charged in Jeremy's murder. It's also suspected that Hoyt Richardson's father was the actual triggerman that shot and killed Jeremy Bright.

This case has always been a favorite (not sure that would be the correct term...how about most intriguing?) of mine. I do agree with some of the earlier posts that there are some potentially similar characteristics to the Kurt Sova case. A bunch of teenagers go to a party, things get out of hand, and Jeremy sadly dies from it. In the panic that ensues, teenagers figure that disposing of the body is the quick and easy solution to the problem. I'm sure that some sort of bullying has been what has kept people quiet for so long, but you would think that anyone who knew what happened would, by now, have the decency to finally put the mystery, as well as Jeremy's family's questions, to rest once and for all. I really sympathize with his mother and sister, both very strong women who, IIRC, have made posts on this board in the past. All in all, though, I do suspect that Jeremy's death was an accident, covered up by people being too afraid to tell the truth, due to retribution. However, I also wonder if possibly something Jeremy saw or heard at the party could have made him silenced for whatever reason(maybe that's why his friend wouldn't say anything, and was in such a state of shock, fear of the same thing happening to him)...not a real strong theory, but you never know...a very sad case indeed, that is more than past due for closure...

This episode/case still haunts me, and has for years now. I remember seeing it when I was a kid and being terrified by the thought of what happened to him. I grew up in Oregon, so the fact that it happened in my home state was even more unnerving, and probably part of what made me remember it so distinctly. I can't believe nobody has come forward still.
I was perusing the internet last night and saw a woman's name, Edna Rosenberry, being posted all over various threads by an anonymous person who claimed she knew what happened, and lived in the Port Orford area. I have no clue if there is any truth to that, and someone who claims to be her niece has been firing back at whoever is spreading that online, but it's a possibility. |

The combination of the Carnival thing and the way Robert Stack says "But they now" and the whole idea that so many people may know what happened to this poor kid and any one of them could help soothe a mother's misery, if they would only do the honorable thing and come forward, but they haven't...Again, Unsolved Mysteries, if there was an award for a low-budget horror short or true-crime short or something, they'd totally deserve to win for this segment and many others.
Though I'd have to say, when it came to the cops involved with this case, they totally deserve to be called the Worst Cops Featured or Involved with UM. A fourteen-year-old boy goes missing and you guys sit on your asses for two weeks and not do anything? Even if it was true that Jeremy ran off to join the Carnival, basic common sense says, "Maybe we should ask a few questions of the workers to verify this." Again, worst cops ever! |

Can someone clear up some confusion I have with regards to this case?
In the UM segment, it says that Jeremy called his mother from a payphone around 4:45 p.m. Thursday, August 14th. At 9:40 p.m., it says that he met his stepdad and grandmother at a local tavern and that it was the "last time Jeremy was ever seen by his family". This article says he was supposed to meet up with his sister at 5 p.m. that Thursday at the Ferris Wheel at the fair, but he never showed up. My question is: where was Jeremy's sister during this entire time, and why wasn't Jeremy thought to have been missing during the entire day of Friday the 15th? His mother was due to pick Jeremy and his sister up on the 16th, and re-reading this thread it says that the stepdad (who worked weird hours) figured Jeremy was spending the night with friends. That same article linked above says that Jeremy was last seen in the vehicle of Terry Steinhoff "in the afternoon", so was this a sighting on Friday, or was it Thursday? Because UM makes it explicitly clear that Jeremy went to ask his stepdad for money right before 10 p.m. on Thursday the 14th. I'm really confused now. |

I think it's fair to say that, as with all murders that took place in the 1980s, a satanic cult was almost certainly involved here. The evidence of this, as always, is overwhelming.

I read Jeffrey Victor's Satanic Panic in a single sitting one afternoon at the library several years ago. I was in a college sociology class at the time and we were studying urban legends--in particular, those dealing with product tampering such as razor blades in Halloween candy. Invariably, "satanic cults" came up and it piqued my interest. I remember a couple of my classmates being really closed off to the idea that there isn't much evidence to suggest they exist, let alone commit acts of ritualistic murder and rape. And this was 2004. |
