Default Match Game '90 Pilot with... BERT CONVY?

a rare treat; Here is the opening from the pilot of Match Game '90 with Bert Convy. The traditional "Spinning Circle" was used here rather than the "sliding Faces"open used when the show went to air with Ross Shafer.

this pilot for MG '90 was taped on Octorber 1, 1989:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8i8e...dffeature=plcp

so after seeing the opening pilot from MG'90 do you think it would have succeeded with flying colors if Bert Convy was the host instead of Ross Shafer? (minus the Brain Tumor of course)

let me know in the comment below and thanks

Personally thought the spinning circle was a lot better than the sliding faces intro used on the regular series.

I didnt notice a difference between sliding faces or spinning circle. I thought this version of Match Game was good. I liked the Match up part of it.

Very few people knew Ross Schaffer, so Convy's version would have stood a better chance. Shafer did a good job, but the stars weren't right, there was no chemistry and the show was gimmicky. The biggest problem was a noon time slot and most ABC stations aired local news rather than MG 90.

thanks for your kind opinions regarding the MG '90 pilot NigerlWick, and i'm not trying to make you look foolish or anything but Ross' last name is pronnounced "Shafer" not "Schaffer".

Nope, it was Bert Convy who had a brain tumor and therefore couldn't host it after the pilot was sold.

I also think it would've had a better chance if Bert Convy was able to host. Watching that pilot, it was almost as if Gene Rayburn was still hosting. Much better chemistry with the celebs. It might've even had a run like Super Password, somehow lasting for several years despite a noon timeslot.

Are you sure you're talking about Match Game 90, not 98?

I agree to a certain extent. I love the old stuff too but if they keep with the tradition of the game I have no problem with it. Its the same with Pyramid on GSN. Is it exactly like Dick Clark's version? With the exception of theme music it is so I dont have a problem it. Its when they stray from what the game is about that makes me mad.

When did Bert die? I first saw him in Susan Slade a movie with Sandra Dee. Bert had straight black hair.

Gotta ask, then, what was trashy about Match Game 90? Simply being from that decade? I found absolutely nothing wrong with it, besides Ross Shafer. Match Game 98 was much more trashier.
