LOL this is a funny episode, lots of visual humor in this one. It's a spoof of the spy TV shows which were popular in the 60's. The funniest part is when they are riding on the luggage conveyor belt, and then they end up coming out on the luggage carousel.
I'm glad I finally bought these DVD's, I found a good deal on Deep Discount DVD. Not quite as good as The Lucy Show, but still there are many good episodes. And after six years of The Lucy Show, the formula was getting stale so it probably was a good idea to rename the series and change things up a bit. In The Lucy Show, Gale Gordon is Lucy's employer at the bank. Then all of a sudden in Here's Lucy, the two of them are relatives. They still work together, but now it's an employment agency. MPI did good work with these DVD's, they usually do good quality DVD sets. Good picture and sound quality, uncut episodes. Family Affair is the same way. To me, The Lucy Show and Here's Lucy are Lucy's best shows. I think she was funnier after she was on her own and split from Desi. |

IDK about funnier, but different. I like how the Lucy Show and Here's Lucy have that cool 60's- early70's vibe! I Love Lucy is a classic, that My Mom got me watching. I liked all three Lucy's!! And of course I Love Lucy has aired a lot more than the other two, so I know all the eps by heart!
The airport Chase was a funny one. I was watching Here's Lucy about a year ago on COZI TV when it was on in the afternoon. Some of the eps I really liked were when Lucy inadvertently marries an Indian chief!! And also the ep. where Ann Margret guest starred. Desi Jr. really shined in this ep.!! |

Yea, I also like the vibe of The Lucy Show and Here's Lucy. 60's and early 70's, very cool indeed.
Both shows represent their eras well. And both shows are classy productions, with sets that are pleasing to the eye. Some episodes of I Love Lucy are OK, but overall I prefer The Lucy Show and Here's Lucy. It's in The Lucy Show when I think Lucy's style of comedy really began to hit it's stride, and it carried over into Here's Lucy. |

A lot of people make the mistake of assuming Mary Jane was a replacement for Vivian Vance, when Lucille Ball deliberately did not replace Vivian Vance after she left the show. With few exceptions through the years, Mary Jane's primary purpose on the show was not to be Lucy's sidekick, but only to help launch Lucy off on some adventure where Lucy was interacting with some other guest star (almost always without Mary Jane), or performing a comedy routine solo. Usually -- at least prior to the last season of Here's Lucy -- Mary Jane would only be featured in the first act and would be absent from the main comedy scenes. Even by the sixth season of Here's Lucy, when Mary Jane was essentially a regular and was now sometimes appearing throughout most of the episode, she was still not really acting as Lucy's sidekick in her schemes. I can only think of less than a handful of instances where Mary Jane was allowed to do that (e.g., The Lucy Show episode with Sheldon Leonard when Lucy and Mary Jane disguise themselves as cleaning people, and the Here's Lucy episode "The Not-So-Popular Mechanics," where Mary Jane tries to help Lucy repair Harry's car). Most often, her role was like what she did in the John Wayne episode of The Lucy Show, where she appears early in the episode to help set up the plot, then Lucy goes off solo to do her big comedy scenes with John Wayne, and Mary Jane is nowhere in sight for the rest of the episode. Given that Mary Jane was rarely even given the opportunity to do Vivian Vance-type scenes, and did not play a character that was meant to stand up to Lucy like Ethel/Viv did, drawing that kind of comparison is unfair. It's comparing apples and oranges. For the kind of role she was given, which was not as an Ethel/Viv-type character, I think she was great. |

In The Lucy Show episode Lucy Gets Trapped, Mary Jane has a bigger role in that one. She goes shopping with Lucy, and Lucy causes havoc at the department store. Lucy pretended to be sick so Mr. Mooney would send her home, then she went shopping and ended up getting more attention than she bargained for. That's a funny episode.
