ABC Cancels "The Whispers"
"The Whispers" Cancelled after 1 Season
by Nellie Andreeva October 22, 2015 ABC has made it official, opting not to pick up summer drama series "The Whispers" for a second season. The decision comes four months after the options on the cast expired. The network and producing studio ABC Studios hinted at the direction they were leaning at the end of June when they allowed the options on all the actors to lapse, with a possible renewal requiring brand new talent contracts. "Whispers" showed promise in the early going, especially in DVR viewing. The genre-tinged series premiered with a 1.5 Live+Same Day rating among adults 18-49 and 5.7 million viewers in the Monday 10 PM hour to become the network’s highest-rated summer scripted premiere since "Rookie Blue" in 2010. With a strong delayed viewing, "The Whispers‘" premiere result shot up +53% to a 2.3 in Live+3, becoming the highest-rated L+3 summer debut on any network since CBS’ "Under the Dome" in 2013. (In Live+7, the rise was +67% to 2.5). But after a promising start, the ratings for the show started to erode through its run though the season finale hit a four-week Live+same say high with a 0.7 L+SD demo rating, and "The Whispers‘" DVR percentage gains continued to be solid off a small base. Created/co-executive produced by Soo Hugh, someone or something is manipulating children to do unthinkable things. Steven Spielberg, Justin Falvey Darryl Frank of Amblin TV are executive producing with Zack Estrin and Dawn Parouse Olmstead. The cast included Lily Rabe, Milo Ventimiglia, Barry Sloane, Derek Webster, Kristen Connolly, Kylie Rogers and Kyle Harrison Breitkopf. The show’s producers’ creative plan for Season 2 included expanding the scope of the implications caused by the events in the first season, which would call for some tweaks and cast turnover. http://deadline.com/2015/10/the-whis...bc-1201591063/ |
