Default Maynard or Gilligan?

Is there anyone else here who prefers Bob Denver as Maynard over Gilligan? I've been watching Gilligan's Island (for the first time in years) and I just don't enjoy it as much as I used to. There is something about Denver's portrayal of Maynard that is more endearing to me.

My 15 year old has been watching Gilligan's Island as well, and she thinks the characters are pretty interchangeable.

Cool

I love Bob Denver in both roles! But if I would have to choose one over the other I would take Maynard! I love the way he pronounces the word "work", his loyalty to Dobie, and his beatnik slang!

Maynard is better. He was definitely the comic relief on Dobie Gillis.

I never really liked Gilligan much. So it is Maynard for me.

There's an analogy for this debate. Same question would arise about Ron Howard's 2 memorable roles as well-Whether people prefer him as Opie Taylor or Richie Cunningham.

Maynard... I grew up with Gilligan, but I like Maynard more (I saw him on Nick at Nite in the late 80s/early 90s).

Same story with Don Knotts-Barney Fife (The Andy Griffith Show) or Ralph Furley (Three's Company).

Both Maynard and Gilligan were very well played comedic roles by Bob Denver. I imagine I would choose Maynard because The Many Loves Of Dobie Gillis is my favorite T.V. show, but I also love Gilligan.

Yes. I prefer Bob Denver on Doby Gillis Than Gilligans Island. His character isn't a stupid on Doby Gillis as he is on Gilligans Island
