Default The EiE House

I've always wondered, was Eight is Enough actually shot on location from that house? Or did they just film the exterior scenes around the house, and the interior was a sound stage? Where is/was the house? Was it actually in a neighborhood or was the neighborhood on a studio lot?

I have been wondering this myself. Here's what I discovered while doing research from a message board hope this helps....

The strangest thing about where the EIE house used to be is that the area looks nothing like the neighborhood you would expect to find that type of house in. The road is just off a wide, busy road with car dealerships and fast food restaurants on it. Universal Studios is just down the street. The road turns into a culdesac which is bordered on one side by the Los Angeles River which is surrounded by concrete. Portions of this same "river" were used in the drag race scene in the film, "Grease" in case you need a visual. I imagine the house stood out quite a bit as the houses on the parallel streets to Chiquita are all ranch style homes without much character. Even the houses that are next to where the house used to be are drastically different. That's L.A. for ya....no continuity in architecture, zoning and virtually everything else.

The exterior shots of the Bradford home were filmed at a house located across the street from Universal Studios in Burbank, CA. Unfortunately the house has been demolished and condos have been constructed in it's place. The home was located on Chiquita street right off Lankershim.

One thing I noticed in the outdoor shots in front of the house, is that the street was DUSTY as heck. Every scene show dust and dirt being kicked up. That must have been a really nasty place for the people who lived there. Unless it was just really cheap property as a result of being basically a sinkhole.

Thanks for posting this. Until reading this, I was always under the impression that the exterior of the house was of one in Sacramento. I don't know who originally told me that or why that idea was perpetuated in my brain, but now I can lay it to rest.

It always looked like a house on a dirt road to me. Not very unusual.

Not at all. That only means if they want to make future projects, they'll have to build a facade.

Hi all,

thank you for the info about the EiE house.
While watching the episodes, I try to draw a map of the house (maybe I will post it, if someone is interested).

I would like to know if the interiors of the house are those of another house, or those of the same house which is shown in exterior scenes.
