"The Good Wife" Exclusive: Matthew Goode to 'Befriend' Alicia in Big Recurring Role

English actor Matthew Goode (Watchmen, Leap Year) is joining Season 5 of "The Good Wife" in a major recurring role, TVLine has learned exclusively.

He will play a prosecutor who befriends Julianna Margulies’ Alicia after having a crisis of faith and deciding to chart a new direction for his career.

His first episode is slated to air in the spring. The new season returns Jan. 5th.

Very nice that CBS renewed the show! It was on the border from the gossip on the internet. I like the show in general; but it kind of up and down in plot development where there is a high follow by a big down. I kind of expect it now but not to keen on it overall!

With a name like his, this news shouldn’t come as a surprise: Matthew Goode is sticking around on "The Good Wife".

The actor, who debuted as State’s Attorney prosecutor Finn Polmar on the CBS drama last Sunday, has been promoted to series regular for the remainder of this current fifth season, E! News reports.

Goode’s first episode coincided with the demise of Josh Charles’ Will Gardner. His character was added to give the show “more male energy” in the wake of Will’s death, creator Robert King previously told TVLine.

Another low moment for the show! Just not too logical in my opinion. It got to hold on to it ratings against Resurrection and others new shows. But this is too much for me!

Matthew Goode Exits "The Good Wife" Ahead of Season 7

Turns out "The Good Wife" will be down two full-time cast members when it returns this fall: Matthew Goode will not be back for Season 7, TVLine has learned exclusively.

Goode’s exit follows the departure of Archie Panjabi, who made her final appearance as Kalinda in the May 10 finale. However, while it’s unlikely Panjabi will resurface in the near future, I’m told there’s a chance Goode could make a guest appearance or two.

Goode joined "The Good Wife" as attorney Finn Polmar during the second half of Season 5, in the wake of Josh Charles’ swan song as Will. He returned this past season as a full-fledged regular.

The actor’s status change was hinted at in the aforementioned season-ender, which saw Finn reject Alicia’s (Julianna Margulies) offer to join her nascent law firm.
