Phillip and Elizabeth, get out the vodka: An old friend (?) is coming to town.

FX’s "The Americans" has cast Tony Award winner Frank Langella to play the Jennings’ former handler, the network announced Thursday.

Langella will recur as Gabriel, who comes out of retirement to relieve Claudia (Margo Martindale) of her post.

"The Americans" begins production on its third season this week.

Frank Langella To Return to "The Americans" for Season 4

After recurring on the third season of FX’s Cold War drama "The Americans", Frank Langella is set to return for Season 4, reprising his role as Gabriel, Philip (Matthew Rhys) and Elizabeth’s (Keri Russell) mysterious KGB handler.

“Frank brings such instant depth and complexity to the part,” said executive producer Joel Fields.

“You know that Gabriel loves Philip and Elizabeth. But you can also feel, on a visceral level, what he’s been through as a Soviet. And if he needs them to do what they don’t want to do, he’s going to use everything in his power to make sure they do it.”

Added creator/executive producer Joe Weisberg:

“Frank just gives you the sense of history, the history of a man who’s been through a lot, but also that particularly sad, deep, yearning history of Russia that, frankly, Tolstoy and Dostoevsky make one feel. It’s just awesome to be able to write for him.”
