Default Why Wasn't Ted in the Wedding Episode?

if you saw Rhoda's Wedding, you probably noticed that Ted was the only Mary Tyler Moore show regular that didn't appear in the episode. Why wasn't he in the episode? My thinking was he had to stay in Minneapolis to anchor the news.

Georgia Engel stated on the MTM Reunion with Katie Couric last year that Ted Knight requested not to be involved in the wedding episode. She stated she requested to have a part in the wedding episode no matter how small the part was in the episode.

There was too much going on in that episode that Ted wasn't needed anyway. Ted Baxter had to read the news anyhow.

True, but exactly what would have motivated Sue Ann to have wanted to attend the wedding of someone who she knew only as WJM News's Associate Producer's best friend OR someone who had supported her one-time fling Lars Lindstrom's wife's side? Even had Rhoda's Wedding taken place in Minneapolis, I could only imagine her there if Lou had gotten desperate and asked her to be his date for it and I'm not sure even Lou's charms would have been enough for her to have up and traveled to NYC for the event.

I had heard that Valerie and Ted never got along in real life.

If that were the case, it really wouldn't surprise me. They ARE two totally different types of people.

Ted Knight was known to be Conservative based on what I read, so him getting along with more Liberal types was not likely to happen. I know he didn't get care for all the hijinks his younger co-stars were having on the Caddyshack set while they were filming that movie.

I follow Cindy Morgan on Facebook and she made it clear she and Ted didn't necessarily get along while filming Caddyshack.

Ted Knight was an old-school kind of guy, WW2 vet. Probably didn't care for hippies very much, but I can't verify that. He in real-life was probably a lot like the Conservative characters he played on MTM and Too Close For Comfort. If you wanted to cast an uptight authority figure, was anyone better for that role than Ted Knight at the time?
