Default Grandma Mitchell question

I noticed that there are a bunch of episodes in a row, maybe 10 or more, where Grandma Mitchell comes to stay and takes care of Dennis and Henry while Alice is away taking care of her father. My question is was there some kind of contract dispute with the producers and Gloria Henry? The odd thing is there are quick little scenes with Alice talking to Henry or Dennis on the phone for a bunch of these episodes so she is still in the episodes but only for like a minute. It's almost exactly like what happened to Chrissy on Three's Company with her sick aunt.

Seems likely as "Gramma Mitchell" didnt even exist in the comic, so was obviously created for the show

im not sure but i wonder if maybe she was pregnant in real life at that time.if u notice in those episodes when she is on the phone she was sitting down.thats the only thing i can think of is that they didnot want to write her pregnancy into the show if that was the case.i always wondered to why gloria henry was missing from alot of the episodes grandma mitchell was in or only seen very briefly.

I always thought Gloria Henry was on maternity leave. You could tell in previous episodes if you looked closely. And because of that, they could film vignettes in advance for the episodes where she'd largely be gone.

Yes, she had been pregnant during that batch of episodes. It is discussed in the interview they had with Gloria on the Season 1 dvd set.

I think she was only mentioned once the rest of the series ... in Season 4's "The Uninvited Guest." Alice has to go take care of her and Henry was out of town, necessitating that Dennis stay the night with John and Eloise Wilson.
Other family members disappeared too. Neither of George and John's sisters were ever mentioned again after their appearances in Season 1!
