Post Nanny & the Professor

Hi Lamont!
Good to see you here.

Yes I also watched N&P as a kid but remmeber it best as being played in syndication after school (Channel 11 in NY!).

It was a fun show and I loved Juliet Mills
How is she related to Haley Mills Lamont?

I remember this show being on when I was a little girl and watching it. But for the life of me I really don't remember it! I couldn't even tell you what any of the episodes were about? I don't even think I've ever seen it in reruns! I just remember the Nanny had blonde hair and I remember Richard Long, but that is about it!

If you have any real interest here is a synopsis from memory, Think it ran 3 seasons (69-72) ABC, starred Juliet Mills as a Nanny with ESP but was not specified, Richard Long was a widowed father with 3 children, the most famous becoming Paris Hiltons' Aunt Kim Richards (Prudence). It was syndicated by 1972 after it ended, had a very catchy theme song, and was a very cute harmless sitcom much in the tradition of another forgotten sitcom "Please Don't Eat The Daisies" In NY it was on WPIX Channel 11 (11 Alive), also in the early 80's it was still seen on WSBK Boston TV-38 and seen via cable in metro area, it was last seen nationally as part of the first line-up when the cable channel FX premiered when Tom B (Dancing With The Stars) was seen along with others live in a NY studio loft during commercial breaks. Again all this was from memory, so some could be off slightly. Juliet Mills last claim to fame was on a NBC soap "Passions" where she virtually played the same type of strange character with special powers.

Hi TeeVeeCloset Sorry it took me so long to write back . Thank you for responding to my post! From what you wrote, I do remember more. I remember Prudence, the little girl, long blonde hair with bangs. I remember thinking what an unusual name. I never knew anyone named that. To this day I never knew anyone in person named Prudence. 'Dear Prudence" , a Beatles song from the White album and Shannen Doherty's character on Charmed was named Prudence, but never met a person named that!

Back to Nanny and the Professor, now I am picturing the Nanny, Juliett Mills, she was pretty, and the father Richard long was handsome! And how cool, Prudence (Kim Richards) is Paris's aunt!!! I really would like to see this show again. Wish Antenna or METV would show it!!

Nanny and the Professor did air on FX in the 1990's. It was a cute little show. I wish it was back on.

Hi Great that I helped you remember show, yes seems there are many lost shows that don't get airtime or DVD releases, it's feast or famon. Like MeTV announcing "The Andy Griffith Show" for fall. Now I love the series, but TV Land has it, it's on DVD.....there is no comparision, but seems unless a show gets multiple exposure, then it gets nothing.

Now not to be a know-it-all....for the record I never knew a real Prudence either, but since you mentioned the famous Beatles '68 song "Dear Prudence" It was written in India during their famous trip, sister of Mia Farrow "Prudence Farrow" was with them as well as Donovan, Mike Love, etc. The song rings true because Prudence Farrow stayed inside all day and "didn't come out to play".

OMG!!! WOW!!! How COOL!!! No, believe me you are not a know it all !!! I love to hear things like this! This is my thing. I LOVE nostalgia. Esp. 60's - 70's !!( And late 60's- early 70's really interests me!!! I'm 52, born in 1962, I was a little girl back than, but that was a wonderful time in my life, and so much history from that time! So I love your post!!! How cool for Prudence Farrow!!! OMG I would freak out (in a good way) if a beautiful song like that was written about me!!! I'd for sure 'Come out and play"!!

Dear Prudence, won't you come out to play?
Dear Prudence, greet the brand new day
The sun is up, the sky is blue
It's beautiful and so are you
Dear Prudence, won't you come out to play?

WOW BACK TO YOU! One of the best responses I have ever received here at sitcoms! Thank you so sincerely! I too am of your generation, born 1963, so I am 51....spent my 32 year career in television......loved every minute of it and feel very lucky.

Many times I get discouraged when I write and respond to a thread inquiry here and either the next post is way off topic or all the words go to waste and are not read. I am not looking for amazing responses like yours, but at least "oh I didn't know that, etc".

My very best to you!

PS...I actually met Prudence Farrow in February at a 50th Anniversary Beatles convention in NY and she still takes her meditation extremely seriously.

Hi!!! Again I apologize for responding to your post so late!!! Thank you for your very nice post to me! Glad to meet someone from my generation, close to my age! I am the youngest child of two youngest children. My Mom and Dad were both the baby's in their families. My Dad's oldest brother was 20 years older than him, (My uncle has passed away years ago, a very sweet man, one of my favorite uncles). Dad came from a very big family, lots of brothers and sisters.

Being the baby, older sister, brother and lots of cousins much older. I was a little girl, but I embraced the times, the hippy culture. Like I said before, the best time of my life! Most of my cousins were hippies, and are senior citizens now, and still have the 60's/ early 70's hippie spirit, as I do!

Of course the down side. We lost a cousin and a boyfriend of one of my cousins were casualties of Vietnam! And a good friend/ neighbor of my husband and I who served in Vietnam lost a leg from a land mine. He recently passed away from complications of diabetes.

So the good with the bad, The war, racial tension and problems back than! The TV and the music were wonderful!!! And a sweeter , more simple time! I have held that time period in my heart and in my head and will for a lifetime!!!

With that being said. I am happy I found this message forum, meeting very cool people my age (like you) and older people and the young people that got into these old shows in reruns. Thank you all for welcoming me to this cool forum!

Juliet Mills is Hayley Mills' sister . Juliet and Hayley Mills are the daughters of
actor Sir John Mills and Mary Hayley Bell . Is Hayley Mills married to somebody named "Lamont" ? I couldn't find any information at all about that .
